My 13 Boss 302 LS had rear end noise that got increasingly louder that I would describe as kind of a groan or moan. It had about 6000 miles when I took it in for the first time. The noise increased proportionally with higher speeds. At first the dealer replaced the caliper / pad retainer clips per the TSB, and told me it was "normal" for these cars with the 3.73 Torsen diffs to make noise, esp. since my car is lowered, and esp since it's an LS with no back seat to absorb the noise. I didn't quite believe them, but said ok. After getting louder and louder over the next couple thousand miles, I had a guy from an independent speed shop ride with me to verify that I wasn't crazy. Right away, he said I had a bearing going bad. Back to the dealer, they agreed and replaced my whole diff and bearing assembly (service writer called it a "gear pack"). Car had appx 8000 miles this time. It is perfect and MUCH quieter now. It's no Town Car, but that's to be expected:-)

I know this is a thread revival, but I have this exact same thing. Deysha has already escalated this, but I think my dealer just is blowing me off. Told me my axle back exhaust is louder than the whine and that I have plenty of warranty left.

I'm going to take it to another dealer and see if they think the issue is normal

I have a rear end whine myself. I got an appointment at the dealer for 2010 GT Convertible. Mine sounds like metal rubbing or a brake shoe dragging.

Rear end "winding/whining" noise at all speeds

Hello everyone,
New to the forum. I have a 2013 GT with the 3:31 rear end, all of a sudden it started making a winding/whining noise at ALL speeds in ALL gears, including neutral. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks

Did you install a supercharger by any chance?

Hi DanFord,

I recommend you bring your vehicle in to your Ford Dealer and get them check it out. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime numbers so I can escalate this to the customer service manager for your area.

I'm a service advisor...just bought a 14' GT w/ trac pkg. I do notice the noise today myself. the only reason why I paid attention to mine, there is a customer that is complaining about the same issue, the service mgr. drove it and confirmed it. ring/pinion is on order but national back order at this time. I will wait and to see if this will fix the problem. I will try to talk to the tech when the car is in the air and check the axle the brake clips..i'll try to keep you guys posted

Thanks man, I'd like to have a plan of attack before taking time to head out to the next nearest Ford dealer from me, even though I have a dealer around the corner from my house - I just refuse to take my car there.

Hi all,

I have a 2014 mustang GT with a deceleration vibvration above 40MPH and ring gear noise around 66MPH. Throw the car into neutral and the vibration stops. Ford dealer found slack in the shims in the rear. They have a ring/pinion kit on order but the kit is on back log. I have the car back atm. Mine is 6r80 auto with 3.15s.

We had a real bad whine/drag in our 2011 Brembo GT rear end w upgraded 3.73's this time last year and we took it in to our dealer and they replaced the carrier bearings which fixed it.....until a couple of weeks ago; Took it back in and after going back and forth, they replaced everything but the axles themselves under our extended warranty which resolved our issue. The parts were on a "national back order" and they replaced everything with what was available.....Ford Racing Parts The service manager said "apparently this is a manufacturing issue with the parts" which were manufactured in Mexico. Hopefully we're done with this issue now.

I had the same issue. The car have been in repair for the same issue 4 times. The las time I changed dealership and they brought engineers to work with the problem. Result they aligned the gears again with in spec and it fix the problem .... for 2000 miles now is getting back again as normally does first start with humming when coasting around 45 mi and 85 mi and then you can feel shifting get harder and MPG goes to the roof. I will like some help or advice on what to tell the dealership to look for. I have already 41k mi and everything started at 32k. Service made by the book.

driver side rear scraping noise

Has anyone had this problem resolved. I have been to my dealer three times and still keep getting the run around. I am headed to new dealer next week. I have a squealing noise when driving slow around 25mph and the whine at 80mph.

Welcome to the forum, cwwiley! I’d like to get this reviewed for you. Will you please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number? I’ll forward this to the customer service manager for your area and get it looked into.
