Needing some auto tranny advice

So in the last few months, I've have a couple instances where when I shift from Park to Drive, the shifter does not lock in. I don't know if it is from being on the road for about 5 minutes or wiggling the shifter from side to side, but it does lock into gear properly after a few minutes. Today at a gas station, again after driving for about 5 minutes, I stopped and went to put the shifter in Park. It physically moved to Park, but would not lock in, also preventing me from removing the key from the ignition. It took a minute of wiggling and moving the shifter up and down, but it finally did pop into Park.

Any thoughts as to what could be the problem? I would like to call it an electrical issue, but it happens randomly, definitely not on a regular basis. And go figure, I'm at 53k, so out of warranty.

The powertrain warranty is 5 years 60000 miles I believe. Check with the dealer to be sure and to see if this would be covered under powertrain. I'm thinking it would be.

As for the cause, I have no idea.

i had few times this issue when i dont have the brake pressed and move the shifter to park. so i changed the my way of operation. when complete stop, i will have my leg in the brake and will also apply power brake. then move the shifter to park. i have not had a problem ever since. not sure this will solve urs. but worth a try
