Clutch Assist Spring Removal. This needs to be a sticky!

This is such an easy mod.

For me it is like a totally different clutch and shifting experience. My times are much better, and closer to Ford times shifting up. Downshifting is smoother and more stable.

I shaved one second off my 0 to 60 time with this mod!

Great video Mr. video guy. Ray721 14 GT

Number 4 is classic.
This image is not my doing, but says it best under number 4. It is a more complicated method and not necessary. In fact I would not risk it this way. Get the snub nose vice grip.

I took mine out but didn't like the feel so I put it back in. I might take it out again though because my clutch sticks to the floor sometimes after a WOT run.

Removed mine about 3 years ago and never looked back.

I kind of want to try this, but at the same time I like the feel of my clutch pedal. Firm, and comes back with authority when I let go of it.

I was in Germany a few weeks back and had a Focus for a few days. The clutch felt so light. It took me a while to get used to it. Strange feeling, like pushing on a imaginary pedal.

It is just as easy to put back on if you don't like it off.

I feel so much more control over my shifting. If you can get past the slight extra force needed to shift you will feel the benefits. It is like more fine tuned in your feel force, and more predictable control.

I took a look at my pedal and couldn't figure out how the top part (in black) just pops out. Does anyone have more details?

Fireball241 Oct 14, 2015 02:05 PM

It is hooked on there at the black part. You are pushing down on the spring. The vice grip clamping the spring makes it easier for you. When you push down on the black part at one end of spring it clears the hook and pops out.

You might be pushing down on the hook itself and not the spring. The hook is a part of the pedal. The black part or ledge is at the end of the metal spring. It the area around the metal of the spring.

Here is another video with different angles. At the end when he puts it back on is a great angle also.

Is this spring the reason my clutch pedal sticks to the floor? It has happened twice on very cold mornings. Once I pulled it up it worked fine.

if my pedal does not stick to the floor is this worth doing? How much stiffer does this make the pedal?

Thanks
Jack

It doesn't make the pedal stiffer at all. It makes the pedal push completely smooth and actually easier. I personally like a stiff clutch pedal, but this spring is like pulling a compound bow. uneven pressure about half travel. It gets heavier to push, then really easy. The problem is that the clutch engagement point is in the middle of the pedal travel and doesn't feel natural.

Mine was doing that too. With the spring removed I have not had any weird clutch operations. And I feel so much more at intermediate positions of the pedal now like a clutch should act.

Good deal, thank you. I'll pull it off as soon as I can.
