2013 Mustang-V6 Fuel Mileage Discussion Thread!

Hey all, not sure where to post this...
See attached pic of my exhaust, My drivers side exhaust pipe is flattened between the X-pipe and rear wheels. It has been this way since new.

Is this NORMAL??

I am trying to figure out why this Stock V6 wont average any higher than 22mpg and has never exceeded 25 on highway...
Thanks!!

You may want to take it back to dealership where you purchased it. You should be getting a lot more on the hwy. I average around 27-28 hwy, and about 18 city. I have used the Sport mode while in heavy traffic and have gotten 23 city. I haven't look under my car yet but I do not think the tubes should be flat at all. May be damage while in transit from ford to the dealership. Hope this helps.

It's the V6 Premium, 6 spd auto, 2.73 gears. It's supposed to get 31 highway but never exceeds 25mpg... If I drive it at 45=55 mph it gets about 24mpg, highway speeds like 65+ it drops below 22, and averages 22 total in mixed driving. It's like the milage is reversed, it generally gets better mileage in city driving!! 11000 miles now, it is broke in, dealer says it's not broke in and nothing is wrong....

If a few of you can check your exhaust that would be great=Intake and air filert all look good-I wonder if the pipe is crushed and having a bad effect...

That just doesn't seem right, I just got 26.1 mil a gallon on the highway and I'm driving the 05 GT which is completely stock. Your more newer technology should have you surpass that without a sweat. Take your pony back to the dealership, it could be something with the exhaust or something as simple as updating your computer, your factory tune could have a glitch. Good luck!!

How long have you had it? And my car has that flat spot in the mid pipe as well. I think thats just how it comes from factory. Just reset your trip meter on the next highway run and let it run. Itll take a mix of both highway and citt driving so that 20+ mpg reading is combined. It doesnt read real time all the time like some cars do

What are the engine RPM's at highway speeds? Make a note if you can.

I've found with my 6MT V6, you need to be below 2K on the tach in order to get decent highway MPG.

I have a 2014 V6 w/2.73 rear also. My exhaust pipes looks identical to the
one in the picture you posted....so for sure the factory puts that flattened
area in the pipe.
If I drive on a level highway at 65 mph my car will get 32mpg+ continually,
and that's with resetting the mpg indicator while driving that way. BUT,
if I do any full throttle passing, the mpg will seriously fall.
So, if your tires are inflated proper, and windows up...you should be able to
get 30+ on a level hwy with a steady foot.

Followup

All,
Thanks for the replies,
The car just sux MPG wise, I will tell dealer to run extensive tests.
My tires are good
I get better city mileage than highway
I am not a leadfoot
My Highway RPM's are 1200-1500(65-75+ mph) Auto trans in normal D mode
A steady 45mph will get me around 24mpg but any increase in speed kills the mileage.

Somebody else asked about that flat on one of the pipes here before. It's normal, and I think somebody gave an explanation even i.e. it's by design.

Have you checked the mileage by figuring it out with a calculator at fill up, my computer is normally off by a little.
Mine has averaged 25.8 for the past 29,000 miles according to Fuelly http://www.fuelly.com/driver/siberexpress/mustang

It's normal. I have the same exact dents and I saw another thread that confirmed this as well.

Yeah, I kept a book for 5000 miles...The book numbers worked out to something like 22.7 and the computer said 22.2...so pretty close...

I have a 12 Pony Package automatic with 2.73 gears. It gets 29-30 on the highway with speeds ranging from 65-80. Around town it gets 22 most of the time and as much as 24 if I drive like a grandma. So I would say you have an issue.

I average 22 mpg flat. However, my car sees the highway maybe 5 times a year.

I'm averaging around 26.8 mpg. That's about half highway/city.

31.9 mpg here with a high tank north of 34, but its 95% hwy. I think there might be something wrong with yours. Try a different dealer?

I have the 3.31 Rear and I've never seen above 26-27 on the highway but in keep in mind that's averaging around 80-85 sometimes 90 so that's not too bad I suppose. City though is a disaster for me. Average around 17.5 - 8. Definitely not granny shifting but I'm not necessarily gunning it everywhere either. Oh well :/
