Deysha, just sent you a PM. Thanks again for all you do. Deysha |
******UPDATE
My replaced screen that was never abused or cleaned failed again. Same failure as the first time. No abuse no damage. 100% defective materials, plain and simple...... Edit: Considering the frustrating time consuming pain it was to get replaced the first time, I'm going to fix it myself/go aftermarket. I'm a hopeless Ford sucker (see sig line), these are my play toys, so I find these material flaws "acceptable". Insert HUGE eyeroll here. I could see anyone else though that doesn't have a blind allegiance to Ford or is concerned about what they are getting for their $$$$$$ to think twice. This is a nearly $50k msrp car the OEM just doesn't care/continues to use garbage/faulty materials processes building..... edit2: kick/ban me for honesty. No cares given, LOL!! |
Same issue
I had the exact same issue with mine and took it in about a year ago to get some other warranty work done, the deck lid to the trunk was loosing it's shine, the motor for the drivers door was ticking. They told me it was a chemical burn caused by myself so I took their word for it. My screen looks exactly the same as every other picture in here and it's only gotten worst over time and I only clean it with the cloth they gave me.
|
Mine has been replaced for over a year now and still looks like new. If mine fails again, I will probably just use the tinted plastic piece I bought back when I thought I was going to have to fix this myself.

Thanks for the kind words and PM, BufordGT! I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Deysha I'm trying to figure out if the symptoms in post 125with the 2 vertical lines is acceptable after a replacement panel was installed? Thanks Lance |

I've actually had this issue twice with my Mustang. The first time it was replaced the replacement display had the pair of vertical lines and said Mustang when I start the car.
The second replacement was like the original one with no "Mustang" or vertical lines. |
Holy thread revival!
Last week was the first time I looked inside my ‘13 since storing it in late November. Much to my chagrin I found the same “worming” issue on the radio lens that many of you have. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I know how finicky clear plastic pieces are so I’ve been ultra careful when cleaning it. I never used anything but new, barely damp microfiber towels. In short, aside from these newly appeared flaws, there isn’t a single toweling mark on it. My car is now out of warranty so I know what I’ll get out of Ford -even though this is a “life of the car part” and should never fail unless there was an obvious defect in it-. My questions to you all are:
John |
So about 2 years to the day I had the lens replaced on my '12 GT, the hazing/cracking is back. It happened all at once. My car is always in the garage even when I drive it to work, so it's not environmental, just a crappy supplier part to Ford. It's vey disappointing that the same problem that was fixed under warranty has returned and the car is now out of warranty. :(
|
By chance does anyone have a extra display lying around ? Broken on not doesnt matter, I want to do some tinkering.
|
It looks like my replacement lense is starting to have this problem. I will have to keep an eye on it to make sure. Crappy parts.

So I have two questions.
#1. Does anyone know, specifically what Ford was actually doing to rectify this? My assumption from what I have read is that they were swapping out the entire FDIM and not just trying to fix the FDIM that the car had. #2. Does anyone have the new FDIM that I can ask a few questions of? Specifically, the FDIM that boots up with "MUSTANG" |

FYI For Others! https://themustangsource.com/forums/...0/#post7093781 For what it's worth, now I'm wondering if there was a certain point where the new FDIM (and it's firmware became the standard for the cars. In my research, what I have found is that the original manufacturer of the FDIM was Sanyo. At some point, (me thinks late 2013 like October. It switched over to Panasonic. The FDIM is a shared across the Ford Mustang, Ford Focus, and Ford Taurus. And ironically, all of the Focus and Taurus forums I've checked showed that they boot up with Ford Focus and Ford Taurus respectively. Always interesting how the Mustang got the same treatment but didn't have the boot up treatment until later. Supposedly, it has to the with the fact that the original intent was that Mustang consumers wanted to "get in a go" and a boot up indicator was considered "too slow". However, when the units started crashing, they realized that it was a good indicator, of whether or not the unit was failing during boot or post. Sort of like how a playstation3 cannot have the boot beeps disabled without cutting the actual speaker out. It's an actual HARDWARE driven debugging system. Anyway, what I find interesting is that the post you linked has the user indicating he has the new format in January of 2014. This leads me to believe that perhaps by Jan 2014. They were producing the new FDIM with the new firmware. It doesn't necessarily mean that new cars (2014+) were automatically using them, as, because this wasn't recall worthy, they were b probably doing what they could to bleed through the old inventory. My 2013 has many components that have earlier part numbers indicating manufacturer from 2012 and 2011. Luckily for me, the FDIM actually has the manufacture date printed on the exterior sticker. I found one on eBay for $30 that was manufactured by Panasonic and the manufacture date is July 2014. It was the latest, I could find. We'll see! |
Just Like Paul Harvey!
Now You Know The Rest of The Story! Old Timers Will Get The Reference! When Ford Changes Vendors on Parts They Usually Would Revise The Actual Part Number So Lets Say a Part Was DR3Z-10889-A A revision Would Be a B at The End. It Was Done If a Part Changed or The Supplier Changed. Also Since Ford Had Various Radio Repair Center Stations One Supplier Might Have a Lot of The Original Numbers and Would Exhaust Stock Before Using Revised Numbers So Two Mustangers Having The Same Part Being Repaired At The Same Time Could Get Either Style Unit as Well. Could Also Be Mixed Stock on Assembly Line, Anyhoo Just an FYI. Sounds Like Some Solid Research on Your Part & I Wish You Luck on Getting Desired Unit. TAFN! KC |
