no idea what exactly was replaced but the new facing had a peal away decal on it, like brand new. My bluetooth and phone were still in sync so it's highly unlikely they replaced the entire radio unit.

You could tell where the peel away decal had been on my new screen. They took it off after installation. From what I have learned is that the FDIM is not the radio itself but the screen but I'm not clear on what screen it is. The one on the radio itself or the one mounted into the front cover panel that looks damaged on our cars.

My work order says they inspect, verify concern, removed and replace radio unit as needed, retest.

I'm going to assume that means I got a new radio. My radio presets were correct from what they were before so I guess they have some way of retaining that info or maybe they just wrote them down and reinstalled them.

I think it is interesting that some people are supposedly getting new radios as well as the new front cover and some people are just getting the front cover.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the radio surface delamination issue. About 3 months ago a small spot appeared and finally took over my entire radio surface. It was almost impossible to see with the light shining on it. I knew I had never cleaned the surface with anything so I had no idea what it could be. I was in the shop getting an oil change and mentioned it to them and they told me they get about 1 a month of these happening on the Escapes and only had it happen on a few Mustangs. They ordered the module for me and replaced it today in about 15 minutes free under warranty. They said they're not sure what causes it but think it's heating/cooling or the sun.

Awesome that the dealer was so informed about this!

Thanks everyone, I will let my dealer work on this next time I dropping by.

Update: couple days ago, I brought my car to dealer have them check it out and confirmed the issue. Dealer ordered part and replaced the screen two days later. Dealer also updates the sync and brought me new "mustang" message and additional vertical lines. Very happy.

The replaced part is only screen itself, radio set is kept untouched.

yes that makes sense. Same thing with mine, but they didn't update the sync. I don't care so much about sync tho. seldom use it.

No it will not go away it is leaking get it replaced as I did

puma1552 Mar 18, 2014 10:32 PM

So are brand new '14s coming out of the factory the last couple months still coming with this old problematic screen or are they coming with updated screens and the sync updates with the lines and Mustang text at startup?

70monte Mar 20, 2014 06:00 PM

When I got mine fixed back in January on my base model car that does not have sync, I got the line and the "mustang" text at startup. I don't know if the new 14's have the updated screens. They should since the special service message addressing this problem came out in October of 2013.

My car was built 3/17/14 and does NOT have this updated unit. Most likely I'd guess that means the update is a new headunit/hardware replacement update rather than just a software update.

It's a Sync update. The radio they put in your car was most likely sitting in stock for several months therefore doesn't have the latest update.

Here is what the SSM says on this issue. Since my car does not have sync, that is not the reason I now have the blue line and the "mustang" message after my repair.

I'm also not totally sure what was replaced during my repair other than the screen in the "front control interface module" as the SSM describes it is new. I'm not sure if the FDIM is the actual screen on the radio itself or it's the screen in the "front control interface module". That is where I'm confused. My repair order says "replace radio" so I'm assuming the entire radio is new but I could be wrong.

Im also having this issue with my new mustang. I noticed it about a month after I had the car, and I baby it so I know I didnt cause it. I went to my local dealer and they told me it would not be covered and that I would have to pay to repair it.

Walk in with a printed copy of the SSM from 3 posts above, they won't be able to argue with that. If they still give you trouble Deysha can help you out.

This is a recurring problem with this defect because it fails in a way that looks like it was damaged.

I’ll get this escalated for you, grabbermustang. Be on the lookout for a PM from me.

I had been searching for months..what was going on with my radio screen. I have this exact same problem, my car is used re-certified from Ford so I guess I'll call my dealer too.

dave07 Aug 24, 2014 09:03 AM

Are you guys getting this fixed under warranty? My dealer told me that I put the scratches in the screen and won't fix it. Which is total BS. It was cloudy, I took it in and they "detailed" the screen and put all these scratches in. Has anyone replaced the screen? I'm thinking about doing it.
