2010 Mustang Gt SERVICE ISSUE

Hi I am trying to get information about a noise coming from front end of driver side.. I hear it as a kind of shuffling sound but the mechanic who test drove it describes it as a chirping sound.
When the car is in gear accelerating the noise is constant, if in neutral the noise stops. It doesn't particularly seem less or more loud as I hit higher speeds, but the sound may get a little faster sounding as I'm starting to hit 65.. the sound is most noticeable around 3000 rpm..
2010 mustang gt manual..
The mechanic said it could be the alternator though he doesn't believe the alternator is bad.. he couldn't give me a for sure answer. I do notice it is difficult to get into gear sometimes, particularly 1st, 2ND, and reverse.. I'm hoping it is not the clutch but that has been what I'm leaning towards. The car just hit 100k.. any help appreciated. Thanks

Hard from tell from here.

There's a device called 'chassis ears'. In order to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, a good mechanic would use that. If your's didn't use chassis ears, you should find someone else to troubleshoot it. A real mechanic will know how to find the noise with relative ease.

Don't think it's the clutch itself as they don't make constant noise unless they're slipping very badly.

If you're doing 65 and hear the noise, down shift into 4th and cruise at the same speed as you were in 5th. If 4th has the same noise, throw it out of gear. If the noise goes way when thrown out of gear, it's probably power train or drive line. If it stays it's probably something like wheel bearings. The hard to get into gear problem could be a separate problem all together.

The noise is ONLY when in gear..When thrown in neutral the noise stops..Noise is guaranteed to be heard at any gear, any speed..

Also getting into gear especially when car first starts, regardless of cold or hot out..it is getting **** near impossible ..after a little while of driving it becomes easier to shift again but its amazingly difficult to get into any gear when first starting up car..Is that a sign of clutch issues or something else??

I dont believe the mechanic used chassis ears..He just used a regular stethoscope kind of object....

Any information on difficulty getting into gear appreciated, Thank you!

when I had my 2010 GT I had a problem with loose transmission mounts that would 'rattle' under acceleration.

May not be what going on with you but I thought I'd just throw it out there.

That sounds clutch related. 100k miles? It's probably time for a new one...
