Sync 2/3 in 2011 with factory nav
I was unsure if anyone posted anything like this already, so I thought i would just ask. I have a 2011 Cali special with the Nav. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to put the sync module/nav from sync 2 or 3. I wanted to change my unit for carplay with the maestro, but maestro told me it cant be done on my car. So if anyone has any information about the newer sync systems please let me know
I just recently started thinking/brainstorming this and have reached out to some harness makers. Started to look at wiring diagrams. Not sure why it wouldn't be possible. Anyone have input on this? Thx
I have been thinking if this would work also not sure if its as simple as taking a newer sync unit and possibly touch screen and usb port and integrating it with the older stuff but i am sure someone here could figure it out
Figured I would post my progress. I have the 2012 Mustang MCA edition with Sync 1 and 8" Nav. I got a Sync 3 APIM and screen from a reputable seller on eBay. Made my own harness after scouring for hours online. So far I haven't been able to get the screen to boot up: it flashes for a millisecond when I plug it in, but when I turn the key on, it doesn't do anything. However, I can see the APIM on Forscan. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
It seems like the APIM is not receiving a signal from the IPC to boot-- is this because either A) the IPC is too old to work with Sync 3; or B) the APIM need to be reprogrammed? I believe it's from a Ford C-Max but I'm not sure. So far, I haven't seen any posts anywhere that indicate that there would be an issue getting the screen to boot BEFORE needing to program the APIM, but I'm out of ideas. I feel like I am so close, though, since Forscan can see the APIM there... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nice. I am in the process of picking one up myself but from a mustang just to make it easier. Do you happen to have photos?
