Got a s550 steering wheel and thought why not see if it fits. Well it fits ☺ got the volume buttons to work and also the info buttons to work ☺ kinda working need to eaither figure out how to redo the button configurations.

Very cool. Is the wheel the same size? Does it change the feel?

pretty much the same. Dont feel any different other than its abit thin compared to the s197. Dunno if it's because it came from an eco boost base model.

The only thing is trying to get the switches to work. I got the info and volume buttons kinda working, info switches I can scroll through but I would have to wait till the "reset to do a check up" message goes away. For the volume, forward and back works, volume up is down and M is volume up and volime down is media.

What about the airbag can you use a s197 and just buy a cover or do you need a whole new one and is it the same connector? I hope you get this to work this opens up options for steering wheels for S197s.

air bags are different. The s197 are bolted while the s550 isn't. I think im just gonna buy one and change the connectors. The swotches I might have to just do a custom board for the switches will see..

If you can get the wiring diagrams for a 15 and a 14, you can compare the current needed for each switch. Might be as simple as resistors on the circuit boards.

I just got a service manual pdf for 2015-2017 that I can send if that helps.

jim010 Apr 16, 2018 08:23 AM

And I have the wiring diagrams for both a 2012 and 2014.

Just let me know what you need.

S550 UPPER SWITCHES. I cut the #2 wires going in to 14 so both can have a feed and return line. like I said they kind of work after I did that.

would it be possible to just use the contact points on the 550 switches to complete the circuit on the s197 switch. They are so small that they can be hidden in the wheel and just have a wires from the 550 switches complete the circuit on the s197.

I didn't think of that. I'll try it out.

if you do take pics of how you did it. I ordered A 2016 steering wheel.

Will do. Make sure you pick up an airbag or a deployed bag so you can have the horn working. Im just gonna pick up a cover to replace the blown bag.

I am going to find a used airbag after I get it working. Hopefully they are not an arm and a leg.

Yeah there is one on ebay for like 360. Im am planning to swap out the column switches also but one step a time ☺. The swap I wanna trally do is sync 3 but I dunno if ots possible

I saw online about having pcb boards made I wonder if getting one for the 550 switch boards made just with contact points with a tab with a hole in it to solder wires. I have no way of creating it but just a thought

here is the 2014 right switch with the 2015 volume switch I see were the connections have to be but so small. Any Ideas how to connect?

Not to sure. The volume buttons work once you cut I think the blue wire then you have feed and return. Just need to figure if changing the resistors will help with the volume up as volume down, Media as volume up and volume down as media. Forward and back button works good.

How about three cuts and three jumps that would make everything work, Cut at the X's and jumps at the yellow

That could work. I didn't think about that.
