Powered subwoofer

Anyone running a powered sub? I was looking at the Infinity basslink but not sure how it sounds.

I have run the infinity bass link in a couple of different cars. It is not bad but I don't think the impact would be very great in a mustang with the shaker 500. It has a pretty tight response but lacks impact. It doesn't HIT. Side note, I usually recommended to customers to buy a separate amp and sub. If one fails, you can replace the part instead of the while unit. It is also more customizable.

Powered subs are generally all going to sound worse than buying separate subs and amps. They are also generally cheaper and easier to fit in tight spaces, so they have their uses, but generally they're a gateway sub. They give you a taste of bass, but you want more, so you move on to more hardcore subs :)

Thanks guys. Just want to add a little bass and not spend a lot on a full system.

zbrewha863 10/4/12 11:59 PM

Yeah, just saying from personal experience, once you get some bass it's hard to stop until you overdo it.

FWIW though I run Infinity subwoofers (their old Kappa Perfect line, which has a really tight and natural sound). They sound great without being boomy or overpowering. I like every Infinity speaker I've ever heard, so I'm sure it is a nice little powered sub.

It's just kind of like saying you want to make your car faster by adding a K&N filter in the stock box. 9 times out of 10 you're going to want to upgrade to a full intake anyway. You have been warned :D

Sounds like your a bass junkie. :)

Recovering. You get to a point where you're either all in or you become reasonable :)

I learned a way to keep from getting too silly continually upgrading. A friend of mine told me that he makes a list of his audio mods. Once the list is made he starts buying parts. He doesn't allow himself to change anything once the list is done. This makes him do more research and stick to a budget. Now that I think of it, I think his wife came up with the list thing. ;) I use the same technique for all mods on my cars. It has kept me from going crazy and helped me not go too poor on mods.

My list of mods would easily be about $30k with paint :jester: :D

Ugh tell me about it. I just bought the car, so I got excited. Next thing I know, $7k later I have a house full of parts and no time to install them b/c I'm too busy making money to pay for the darn parts!

I did a list on my last couple cars, it was helpful to get myself organized. I'm too much of a "deal finder" though, so I'll see a rare part or a good deal on a used part and just snatch it up regardless.

Can't find any write ups or installs DIY for the Basslink on the mustang. Anyone have these installed?

Ghost.223 10/19/12 06:02 PM

I'm almost ready to buy the basslink. Not going to save money by getting it off amazon though. To many reviews of the unit going bad either after the 1 year warranty just ended or sooner but amazon sellers are not official sellers so infinity would not honor the warranty. I will spend the $30 bucks more to get from crutch field plus $28 for the 3 year extended warranty from them. Seems like the safe way to go.

Please don't. You're going to want more the minute you wire it up...

I agree it's not optimal but it meets my budget, space needs, and seems easy enough to self instal vs an amp+sub+LOC which I would have to have installed for me at a cost of 200+ around here apparently :dunno:

Any amount of base over the stock 4 speaker system seems like a win:grin:

I am waiting till my infinity kappa's get here first though just to make sure I still want more base.

BackinBlack13 10/20/12 07:37 PM

Let me know how you like the Basslink.

Has anyone looked at the JL Stealthbox, its not powered but the box does look like it would not be obtrusive at all.

I am all for making any modifications look as professional as possible, the only issue is where to mount the amp.

I've put a basslink II in my car, and have been completely happy. Warms the whole range, and has enough impact to induce rattle if I wanted it to. Once I had it dialed in, perfect tight bass that blended in without sticking out.

Nice. I'm deciding between that and a rockford 10" with amp built in.

a FYI on the basslinks, run a seperate LOC from the unit itself. The built in LOC is worthless, and clips after 30 seconds or so when being fed by shaker 500 sub high level inputs.
