My first post and 2013 GT build

This is my stereo buil on my 2013 GT. I'm at a bit of a standstill right now due to a torn meniscus. I had surgery last week, so I still can't be up and about. I have all my parts, just can't get out to work on it.

Here is the equipment I'm going to use, except the amps have been changed to a newer zapco 4 channel and a pioneer 4 channel. Idea of the build is stealth except for trunk.

The next step was to run three sets of wires into the driver door, apply some second skin damping, and some CCF while I plastidipped the wheels. Took about 3 hours for everything. The trick with the molex in the door boot is that the molex detaches from the boot and you are then free to run whatever wires you want into the door. I will come back to the door for the speaker install and to hook up the wires. They are zip tied up out of the way right now. Forgot the pictures do the CCF, but I don't think I'll be having any rattling.

You can see in my pics my super special wire running tool. I cut the ends off two 24" zip ties, tape them together, then tape the wires on. The secret really is to lube the wires/boot. I used some garage door lube and it slid right through.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/mygu5u5u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/utype8e5.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/9usave2a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/aqu2e4eq.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/hubyrydy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/15/4eruvumu.jpg

A few days later ot motivated and did the passenger door. Wire ran through the boot in about 20 minutes. I got it all damped, and the CCF put on. I still have to do the speakers. Those will probably be last after the amps are wired, installed and hooked up. That way I still have music. Here's my progress along with a test fit of the 8" in the door. They fit perfectly, just need to work on a grill. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/tazura3a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/2eje5uha.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/tazeny4e.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/yzegymy9.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/utesute5.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/9epynapa.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/17/qepe5a3u.jpg

So that's where I stand right now. I want to get some flat metal stock cut and welded to hold one amp hanging down under the rear deck. Hopefully it will look like its floating in front of the subs in the trunk.

Nice, looks like a really clean install!

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks. I hope to finish it up soon, but that depends on the knee healing.

Looks like a nice build so far!

A few questions:

1) Were you able to put the Molex back in the door on both ends once you ran the wiring through it? I didn't want to risk it so I just drilled through the chassis below and ran wires up and cut into the boot.

2) How much and what type of CCF did you use to dampen? I just got some Audio Technix 80mil deadener for the doors and I'm debating on if I need to do the entire door plus back of the door panel or just hit the weak spots.

3) What are you doing for the head unit? I didn't see any mention of that.

Keep us posted!

The plug is still in tact. I just separated the plug from the part that attaches the boot to body. I just pushed the actual plug down into the body. The boot and everything is still completely in tact and can be put back to stock as if nothing was ever there.

I got two sheets from second skin. It's nice stuff and was more than enough to do both doors. I have some extra left for other areas if I need it. Not too much though. Second skin had a promotion with free shipping, so I also got 24sf of the damplifier and 9sf of MLV for the rear deck. The doors are solid now, as is the rear deck. I did that from underneath.

3) What are you doing for the head unit? I didn't see any mention of that.

Keeping stock for right now. Going to use the pxah660 for now. I will run a direct aux for my iPhone in the event I need it, but I will probably just use the Bluetooth most of the time. I didn't want any of the currently available kits right now. Besides the alpine piece was less than the cost of the kit itself.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the compliments too. I checked out your build, and it looks like you had some issues, but it turned out well. I can't wait to get this think completed.

essque 8/8/13 01:18 PM

wow zapco and hertz components, man your car is going to sing! can't wait to see how it turns out.

clucas 8/8/13 03:18 PM

Yeah, I'm hoping it sounds as good as I think it should. I know I'll have to do some tuning, but itwill be worth it.

ColSaulTigh 8/10/13 05:30 PM

I have another quick question - how do you get the door latch cable to detach from the handle? I haven't been able to figure it out and I'm afraid I'll break something....

laserred38 8/10/13 05:59 PM

Are you running the JBLs IB? Look like 15s? Which Peerless mids are those? Looks like a great setup! Curious as to why you're not running both Zapco amps though?

That's not so bad actually. When you look at the cable you can see a green clip that latches into the door handle. I use some needle nose to squeeze the clip together until I can push it back through the hole. When you go to put it back in it will push through and lock into place.

Valid questions. Thanks for the compliments.

Yeah, they are IB. It's my first try at IB. I think I have everything sealed up from front to back. At least everything that will isolate the back wave.

Not all zapco because of the budget. Wife said I couldn't spend any money, so I sold some stuff I had laying around and traded and sold stuff I had in my last car. Hopefully I've put together a well rounded setup. The pioneer will run the Peerless, so SQ out of the amp isn't as big of a deal as it would be for the midrange and tweeter.

The peerless are the HDS line. They fit better then the SLS and the Dayton's I was looking at. The grill/trim ring is the only thing I'm really worried about at this point on them.

Glenn 8/10/13 07:33 PM

nice stuff and good call on the second skin stuff. If I were you I would add the second skin under the carpet, above the head liner and in the trunk. You won't be sorry

clucas 8/11/13 01:13 PM

The second skin is a quality product, and it really did make a huge difference in the doors. A lot of the rattle is gone that was there before. The door is also way more solid when I shut it too.

Sounds good. In my old V6, I was running 2 custom 12s IB, built specifically for an IB setup, Peerless HDS 6.5s and Vifa XT25s on the A-pillars. I was running an old school US Amps 5 channel for the whole system, but it blew the power supply - wasn't even running it hard at the time. It was 1ohm stable, and I think that was the problem. I got a set of Mpyre 6.5s in my current GT, with those same Vifas. I've been spoiled by my Hertz Mille 3-ways in my Escape though. I don't think I'll ever run a 2-way system again!

Do you have any photos of the a pillars? I'm thinking of doing the mid and tweet either in the pillar or sail panel. Not sure where I want them to go yet, but I just came across some ID mini horns on Craigslist that are mighty tempting.

How did you like your HDS?

Oh man you have to get those IDs if they're not too pricey. The HDS were decent, hard to give you an accurate review, as they were 8ohm and I couldn't give them the power they deserved. I'll post some pics of both my pillars in a few. Have to go out to the cars.

I just remembered, I have a set of custom 1 of 5 ID 8" mids that I came across and held onto to do a mini horn/8" mid setup. I'd let em go for what I paid for a good price if you promise to get those horns! They were a Frankenstein mixture of 8" ID8 baskets, IDQ motors and custom soft parts, relegating them to midbass use up to about 1000hz. I haven't installed them, so I don't know how they sound, but being ID, I have to assume they are good. They were built in the early 2000s, and I think ID chose not to offer them, as back then almost no cars came with 8" speakers, so I couldn't see a big market for them.

I so wish I could, but it is just not in the budget right now. Same most likely goes for those mini horns I found, but man does that get to me. It is not often you see mini horns for sale, much less in the same city I'm in.

Here's my mustang pillars. Where are those horns located? Maybe I'll snag them hahaha!
