Help updating sync to 4.0...possible?

I'm really interested in updating my sync if possible. App Link sounds like a very useful tool. I have tried more than once to do a search and apparently the system is on the fritz. It would give me no hits on any words searched for.

What website do I have to visit to download? This assumes perhaps erroneously that such a thing is possible.

Assuming this can/is being done, please share your experiences.

yea Syncmyride.com The dealer should have helped you set up an account when you bought your car.

Active X for IE9 and Java for FF9.0 gave me troubles getting it to download to my thumbdrive. Reformat the thumbdrive and make sure its FAT32.

I was told an update wasn't available to 4.0 yet but I have a 2011. Over at AFM, a Ford CSR stated that an update was coming but couldn't state when. It's been several months now and still no update. I listen to Pandora a lot so was looking forward to it.

I logged into syncmyride and it said there was an update available for SYNC. Did you login there and check? Oddly when I was at the dealer the other day I asked about the update too. THey also said there wasn't one.. but somehow I got it.

This was as of 10 min ago. I havent been able to "confirm" the install. Bottom right corner.. update 4.0

Yes, I did, and I also asked through chat and provided my VIN. What was your build date? Mine was June 2011.

Edited.

Looking at the sync site, I found some info. Looks like I already had 4.0 when car was built. I updated to 4.0.2

Hey everyone!

To clarify some information, there isn't an update at this time that will add the AppLink feature. Our engineering team is working hard to expand this feature to more vehicles, but I don't have an ETA for availability at this time.

2012 Mustangs equipped with software version 4.0 have AppLink. For these users, there's an update to 4.0.2 available. This update is intended to improve the voice recognition system.

Ordie - This is what you're seeing.

If anyone has additional questions, shoot me a PM.

Jaclyn

This is a bummer. It's just software, it shouldn't be a big deal to update my 2011 electronics package.

I'm not sure what type of programming is required on the engineering end, but I do know they're working on it.

To see what the AppLink Project Manager recently had to say, check out:

I wouldn't hold your breath. I am still waiting for an update to my nav and Gracenote database which is now 18 months out of date.

I can get updates to my motorcycle GPS all the time trough the web but NavTeq tell me Ford only issue updates about every 12 months. Well mine came with an out of date DB and still no updates - not happy with Ford for this seeing the nav upgrade cost to the car!!!

I'm not holding my breath either; but I'm completely comfortable with the fact.

The truth of the matter is, Ford Motor Company is more than 100 years old in continuos operation through all of the different milestones our country has been through.

There's good things about this, and there's bad things about this. Ford is not a technology company. They're a car company. They've been making cars with the same factories, processes, unions, management style for at least 50 years. Car companies like Ford are massive, big - and as such a typical corporate culture of a 100 year old car company. As in. don't expect that far of a leap, at least outside of its car business.

I'd rather they remain agile in their core business if anything anyway. While an update would be nice; I bought into the elec package fully knowing that in a world yearly introductions and less than savvy stealership support staff, that's a little less likely.

That's what you have subcontractors for. Let them worry about that stuff.

Like Ordie said, the steps for how to perform the update are on the site.

However, to install the update once you're in your vehicle, use the following menu sequence:

Navigation radio:
PHONE > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > INSTALL

Standard radio:

Press the phone button and use the seek arrows to scroll.

ADVANCED > OK > INSTALL APPLICATION > OK

As long as you have an available SYNC update, you can install it with either radio style. This link will take you directly to the Update & Customize page of SyncMyRide:

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!
