Custom Interior Lighting
2 Attachment(s)
Since all my perfomance and Exterior Mods are done now, I decided to add some custom lighting to the interior for the shows. I go to at least 2 shows a week, so a little flash makes it fun for everyone. I don't have a tri-pod yet, so the photos are not perfect.

too Halloween for my taste, but hey, it's your car...
|
The lights are acutally red, but for some reason photograph as orange. They are also on a seperate switch, so they are only on at car shows.
|
That's the first time I've noticed that the shape of our dash looks like the back of the new Charger.
|
I like it. How did you get the lights around the edge of the dash? Is it a LED light rope or something like that? Day picks close up so we can see what you did would be great. I know I want to see it.
|
Wow, that's pretty cool. Reminds me of Tron. I'd like to see some day pics as well. Can you change the color, or are they only red?

Dash Lights

Thanks for the compliments. First, they are actually Neon. I purchased them from Glow Smart. The link, in case anyone is interested is:
http://www.glow-smart.com/shop/index...te=common/home They offer many colors, but each set is just one color. It is not changable. As for install, it was super easy. Since the dash is soft touch, the tube actually can be just push into the dash between the soft part and the metal trim. I used a dash of clear silicone around the bottom of the center vents as it didn't have enough room to push the tube in. I ran the power down under the steering column and then into the center console. I obtained power from the powerpoint in the console. I also added 2 LED light strips under the dash to light up the footwells as well. Since the factory ambient lights can't be turned on without the car lights on, this was a perfect solution to augmenting the upper dash lights. Plus, it REALLY lights up the foot wells! Also, this is completely reversible with no damage to the car! So it adds a little color to the otherwise black interior with the option of easy removal. And, you will also see the new OEM aluminum trim I had made for the center stack/console. Except that it's just a bit shinier, it is a perfect match! Here is the Dash in the day, plus some closeups. I chose red because of the red stripe on my car. |
They even look good in the daytime - like a nice trim accent - I *might* be interested in something like that.
I'm a bit confused - exactly which items did you get? I'm not finding it in the neon section. |
Kudos to you, I like it. It kinda looks like something I have seen around before that was a cloth edging (welting maybe, forget the proper term) that you could just push in around the edges of the dash or door trim. This is cooler though because you can light it up. I would suggest adding it around your door trim also if you have dark paneled doors. If you have the red door insert then it would be pointless. Lighted doors would be cool for shows too. Gotta post pics if you do it.
|
Under the "Cars & Trucks" section, it is the "EL Wire" product.
I have considered doing it around the door insert, but since the EL wire won't stay in place, it would require a adhesive. And it would involve removing the panels and drilling a hole. So, for now, I am staying away from the doors. But the LED's under the dash reflect really nicely on the aluminum panels on the door, so that helps |
It actually looks REALLY good in the day time. Great job on doing something out of the ordinary, and perfect for shows or just cruising.
What lights are you using under the dash? |
Just regular 12" LED strip lights. They self stick, and are low powered, so it was a very easy install
|
What length did you use for the dash? Is it trimmable or do you just tuck away the extra?
|
I bought the 10' and it is trimable, so start from the power side first, then cut off any extra with a scissors.

Hi,
The 12 inch LED strips are available at Autozone. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...uestid=2924676 It says 24" on the box, but it is actually 2 12" strips |

Awesome idea with the el wire!!! I added a little blue and love it!!!
|
Where does the wire start/plug into and where did you start running it from? This looks sick, but I suck at wiring haha
|
I saw someone else with trim like that but it didnt light up (I think), but I couldnt find it and this is way cooler, so thanks for the info. Looks great!
|
Hey guys sorry to bump a old thread but I couldn't find any other threads with detailed tutorials.
I plan on buying these: How do I wire them in my 2014 v6 mustang? |
awesome neon lights!
Ever since I saw need for speed I've been looking for custom lights to outline my dash! The only problem that I have is how many El neon strings do I need to buy to complete my dash?
|
Looks awesome! I have been thinking of doing this as well. I wish they made a rgb style elrope. So you could change the colors with the ambient lighting
|
How do you install them? Do you hardware them or is it the cigarette lighter plug
|
Sorry to bring up old thread but cant find this info anywhere. Whats the material op used for the dash lighting?
