Base to Premium conversion

5 Attachment(s)
I have shared this on another forum but wanted to put this in here also because I know this might be inspiring for people who got a Base model Mustang but really wanted a Premium.

I purchased a 2014 Mustang a few months back and found the interior very plain. It did have the Performance Package, Sync/Tech Package, and Backup/Security Package so it seemed like a good candidate to upgrade from. After searching for a few months, I have been able to purchase parts needed to swap my Base interior to a Premium.

I posted some pics of the final outcome. I added the MyColor Doorsills, Cupholder, and wired the LEDs in the Premium door panels. I also Wired LEDs in the front and rear footwells. Replaced the dash with the Brushed Aluminum. Put in Leather seats and a leather E Brake. Added GT500 Pedals. Also added the Shaker Radio Bezel to go with the Subs on the doors.

Lastly, I have everything for the Instrument Cluster. This is the last piece to the conversion. However, I cannot seem to find a way to get the AS Built codes that I need to program it. If anyone knows a way, PM me please.

If you have any questions about the install of this stuff, just ask.

Was the conversion pretty straight forward? I did the seats already but nothing else. Do you have a list of part numbers?

ATX_Stang Jan 14, 2015 11:03 AM

I do not have a list of the part numbers. I just kept combing ebay until I found what I needed. To wire in the MyColor stuff, I tapped the blue wire into a positive wire from another light source in my car. Same with the Negative cable. The footwells and cup holder is wired into my Automatic shift lights. So they come on when the rest of the interior lights come on (I have it set to Automatic so they come on when it is dark). The LEDs in the doors, I tapped into the LEDs for the lock/unlock switches.

The cluster was found on Car-Parts.com. There are a few 2013-2014 mustang speedometers for sale on there. You just gotta call the companies to confirm what type of cluster it is.

The dash trim was fairly simple except for the panel holding the airbag. You gotta use a flat head to pry it off from the clip holders. The GT500 pedals are easy. The center console just pops up. If you replace it with a MyColor one, make sure to get the one specific for your car (Auto or Manual). As the chrome bezel around the shifters have slightly different sizes and are not interchangeable.

I just got my Premium Cluster /w LCD and 4 way switch for the steering wheel. Now I am waiting for the programmer tool. Lastly, I need to find the right codes which at this point seems impossible.

I so would love to do this but it seems complicated and I suck with all things electrical haha.

im working on the cluster next, going with a boss cluster.

not trying to hijack your thread, just that in the forum if people need answers to doing these types of things - it helps to have more that have done it for answers and assistance.

I also added a camera spoiler.

I ordered the Leather Seats that were removed from a GT Premium. After installing them, the airbag light stayed on. So I put the cloth ones back in and the turned off. Even though the airbags and modules were good in the GT seats, it seems they were not talking to the other Airbag components in the car. So I ended up removing the Leather covers and reupholstering my Cloth seats. Took about 5 hours and some cut hands but I got the job done.

I have a 2011 GT base and would love to add leather seats. Where did you find yours and how much were they and how difficult was it to install. Thanks.

ATX_Stang Jan 14, 2015 02:12 PM

I bought the entire seats on Ebay for about $1,000. You can find good OEM leather take-offs for $400-$600. I called the dealer and they wanted about $4,000. That is covers and labor.

I connected everything and MyColor works, Select Shift works, E-Brake is detectable, Pressure Gauges work, and Backup Sensor works. Weird part about the Backup Sensor is nothing shows up on the LCD but if I am backing up and get close to something, it goes off like normal. Track Apps does not display.

So now I am waiting for my VCM tool so I can reprogram the keys and I should be all set, besides getting the Odometer fixed.

Automatic 5.0 Jan 15, 2015 06:46 AM

Looks great!

DeeJayTJ Jan 15, 2015 07:53 AM

wow im jealous! I've got the VCM but i dont have the cluster yet. talk to deerslayer, hes done all this before and has a vcm, im sure you could give him a little cash to come out and make it happen for you (or not i dont know i cant speak for him lol )

ATX_Stang Jan 15, 2015 08:31 AM

I already purchased a VCM at the beginning of the week. It will probably be here in a few days. Keep checking car-parts.com. Look under speedometers instead of Instrument Cluster. And select MPH instead of KPH. This is how I found mine. Check both 2013 and 2014.

I turned my interior from a base 2012 to a 2013 premium

TJ, how much did your GT500 door panels cost you, and where did you get them? I'm wanting that pattern for my doors and the satin silver speaker surrounds!
