AppRadio 4 not worth it

If you were thinking of replacing Sync with AppRadio 4, trust me it's not worth it.

These are the issues I had with AppRadio 4:
  1. Fails to connect to iPhone 5 Bluetooth on occasion
  2. Sometimes will lose app that is currently playing and the app needs to be restarted on iPhone to get things working again
  3. Persistent hiss over speakers even when the radio is muted or off
  4. Cheap stereo microphone for voice commands that always falls out of the headliner
  5. Anything beyond Pandora or Podcasts app requires Apple Digital Video connector, otherwise you cannot mirror phone over regular lightning cable or Bluetooth

I got the AppRadio 4 because I thought it would be a big improvement over Shaker Non-Nav Sync, but I was wrong.

I'm already at the point where I am thinking of bringing the car back to the stereo shop for a revert back to Shaker Sync.

Thanks for the heads ups!

I had been wondering about this. The hiss you you mentioned is most likely an install issue. Sounds like the head-unit was not grounded properly. As for the rest of it, that's disappointing. Had a lot of potential.

I have the pioneer 4100nex (replaced base stereo non sync) which I think is almost the same as the app radio. So far I love mine but I only use maps and Spotify in the car play interface. I use a iPod and SD card for music or video. I bought the apple video adapter to try to use app radio mode for waze but it was horrible and can see your frustration. Just hoping eventually to get more CarPlay apps like waze and Amazon music. Not having any Bluetooth issues either for times I don't plug into the center console cable.

that really sux because i love the look of the appradio 4!!! i wanted it for my 13 gt instead of the nexus 7 install (went with 2013 nexus 7 and so far its great other than the heat is killing it :bad: ) but i might risk it anyway and put the appradio 4 in my 01 bullitt because of how sleek it is. (no protruding buttons or knobs)

Heres my setup, however if the appradio could have done with this does i'd of went that route... who knows, maybe they will come out with a firmware update and fix all the problems. I mainly wanted it for a clean navigation setup.

All this is, is a fancy remote for the sony headunit i remotely installed in my trunk behind the carpet between a bracket and the quarter panel.

Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread, just sayin that the appradio 4 was definitely something i would have liked to of gone with if it wasnt such a let down.
