A yes, a valid concern. The usb wire alone weights approximately .5 ounces. Add in a hard drive and we're talking weight upwards of 50 grams.

So you'd be okay if your engine was held in by a strap that was bolted rather than a direct bolt?

Regardless, the argument has gotten off tangent. The hard drive I have is strapped to the side of my glovebox and does not move around in the least bit. I considered bolting it, but it seemed like overkill.
