I found a cable that's USB-A female to USB-B mini male here: http://www.sourcingmap.com/blue-usb-...-p-182738.html. Do you think 11" will be long enough? Eliminates the gender bender.

Great stuff. Since I do not have the upgraded Shaker with the screen (no need for Movies) putting a ton of songs on a thumb drive worked great for me.

I have a '12 GT Premium Sync without NAV (build date: OCT 2011), and it has an empty space where the second USB port would be located. It does have a plastic knock-out -- just no connector inside. Bummer!

Has any 2012 owners successfully done this? Do we know if it isn't something new on the '13s?

It's there on an '11 so I would assume that a '12 would have it as well. However, I can't confirm whether it is only on electronics package models.

That was going to be my next question, is it only on electronics packaged '11/'12s? Or just any premium that has sync.

installed the usb adapters today. took about 45 seconds to unhinge the glovebox, install the adapters, feed it back to the point in the glovebox i wanted it, and re-hinge the glovebox. Tested it out, and it now lets me switch to USB2.

There's been threads about it for over a year now. There just not in the top threads anymore so they get overlooked or forgotten. Lol I actually bumped into one by accident while searching for the USB functionality.

Second thing is as long as you have SYNC on your car, there's a USB 2. I did it for my 2013 without electronics package.

It was a hot item a year ago on all the Mustang and F-150 forums.

No I don't have the Tech package.

My error -- I do have the port. I did not feel the recessed area inside the knock-out (it is on the engine side, so you can't see it without a mirror); however the port is there and it works. Thanks!

Ahh ok, that makes sense. Yea I had to do it by feel. I would never have known from looking that a port was on the other side.

I didn't have a mirror when looking for it so I stuck my cell phone back there and took pictures!

2011 V6 Premium, no nav. I have had a 500gb drive hooked up for a while. The only thing is every now and then it re-initializes. There is just under 10,000 songs. I heard that 10k is the magic # for searching by song. It takes about 5 mins to finish intializing. During that time it will play music but will not allow you to search.

My car has the port as well (Shaker 500, no navigation)

Just added the cable and plugged in my USB stick - works like a charm.

Thanks for the great info! Going to do this on the weekend, but with a 32GB USB stick. Will be nice to have all my music in the car.

I would love to do this mod but I feel like it will add too much weight to the car!
