[Write-Up] Adding the compass to a Base mustang

So when I was installing my 2013 mustang cluster in my 2012 it enabled the compass on my radio. I also installed sync so I have a auto dimming mirror with mic (This is where the compass is) so I only have to wire two wires to get the compass to work the go from the mirror harness to the cluster. So im going to try it I dont know if anyone else has tried getting the oem compass to work but I dont know what kind of pin i need for the IPC harness If anyone knows please post. After install I will do a full right up!

:feedback: :

UPDATE: I have finished the install and will be doing a full write up tonight!
UPDATE 2: Write up is now up! |

So before we start you will need a few thing 1st you should have a rearview mirror with compass(You will need the harness!) on the back of the mirror it will say something like MC/Compass or Compass you want one of these MC stands for microphone. To actually unlock the compass on your radio you will have to have a ford tech or if you have a VCM tool you will need to get the your cluster programed to that of a premium cluster using as-built from a premium. (It may be worth your time just to upgrade your cluster to a 2013 or a premium cluster while your doing this. I went with a 2013) now after is done programming you will notice that the compass display will be working but it will read -- to fix this you need to unplug your battery or not its up to you but I always do. Then remove your old rearview mirror and replace it with your new one next you will need to solder some wires pin 6 and pin 2 and extend the wires to your instrument cluster wiring harness I ran them through to headliner and into the driver side a-pillar. and then tap into or solder your wire for pin 6 into pin 10 in your cluster harness. Pin 2 from your mirror harness goes to pin 9 on your IC harness. then put your dash back together and put your new mirror on. Then plug your mirror harness into the mirror and turn your car on and the display should now read N,E,S,W,etc. now just look in your manual on how to set the zone and config it and your done! Here is the link to the wiring diagram as im sure many will need it! (http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=710&viewfil...%20Mirrors.pdf) its on page 2.

I hope that everyone will enjoy this mod its a quick and easy one if you already have a premium cluster in your base car and really adds to the premium car feel! Thanks for taking the time to read this write up.

I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this, because I'm going to need to do it soon also.

Yeah, my radio is attempting to show the directional indicator (left side of display), but right now I just get the dotted line. I don't have the mirror yet. All in due time though.
