What is the Deal with GT/CS Rear Bumpers?

My understanding towards the lower valance/diffuser with non GT/CS (2013-14) cars is that they require some cuttings and drillings to make it fit. Youtube also confirms this, although Ford website seems to claim everything is bolt on.

Unfortunate has recently happened to my rear bumper and replacement became necessary. Then I came across the valance, why not upgrade? It will look nicer.

Not much of cutting and drilling fan however, my approach was to look for a 'factory installed' GT/CS bumper instead. Paint job to match body color being only mod in this scenario. And...oh boy isn't this getting interesting.

The estimate I got for GT Rear Bumper Cover is 200-ish? whereas the GT/CS Bumper will run over 6-800 with the lower valance being separate piece which will add another 2-300 totaling over 1K. Are you serious?

I am still researching to get exact part numbers to confirm but this is not making any sense. Apparently it is very difficult to configure Ford Parts, and not many knows what GT/CS is.

The part department guys are clueless. I was told Levittown Ford does not ship large parts(local pick ups only). The Tousley Ford couldn't confirm if the bumper is pre-cut (for valance install), and Galpin Auto Sport is telling me it will cost 1125.

What is the Deal with GT/CS Rear Bumper? Furthermore, what's with Ford Factory/OEM Parts?

I am guessing CS is using same bumper as BOSS 302 and GT500, which has precut area for lower valance but it doesn't have holes for backup sensor. As far as I can tell 2013+CS don't have back up sensors. I might be wrong though.

The 200-ish GT bumper has sensor holes so if you don't have sensor you probably have to buy the one without sensor holes (which is about the same price as BOSS 302 cover anyways).

DR3Z-17K835-APTM precut valance but no sensor holes
DR3Z-17K835-AAPTM regular bumper without sensor holes
DR3Z-17K835-BAPTM regular bumper with sensor holes

Below is a thread I posted when I added the Boss (GT/CS) diffuser to my 2013 GT, with plenty of photos.

Thanks for the part numbers, I'm starting to get a hang of it now :)

The (DR3Z-17K835-APTM), is a GT500 replacement bumper then. Possibly has different/additional cuttings or holes for the quad valance. This does not justify the triple pricing though. I cannot help but to think that it is a rip-off even if I was Shelby owner. They are basically the same parts IMHO.

Wow yours look great! So...there is no such thing as GTCS bumper huh. Hard to believe, must I do the cuttings argh!

(To all 2013-14 GT/CS owners out there),
Did you not have an option for Rear/Backup Sensors??? just like you couldn't do brembo or track-pack with California Special?

CS valance uses the same mounting points as the GT500 quad valance. So no matter which bumper you buy it'll work, just depends on if you are willing to cut and if you have backup sensors or not.

That said, cutting is not all that bad if you have electric tools. The cut lines are clearly marked in the back of the bumper from factory. I went with the quad valance.

Looks fantastic and especially love the retro Mustang badging. I've wanted to do that myself but wasn't sure how it'd look….no questions now :nice:

Wow, thats a one good looking pony! I've been meaning to get those stripes on mine as well, they do make mustangs shine.

Since my bumper has backup sensors, I will most likely be doing some cuttings. Could you please advise and possibly list the part numbers of harness/retainers used in the valance install? or do those come with the piece?

You just need these :nice:

The Tousley Ford charges 120+ shipping either of them. Is this what you all paid to get the valance? I'm confused.

First link is valance from latemodel free shipping. $170

Second link is the rear bumper with sensor hole(two showed up because it fits on both V6 and V8). $249 + however much shipping tousley charge

I went with Tousley ford and the $120 + shipping is what I paid for the rear diffuser. I cut my bumper and it Took about 2 hrs and make sure you lay a thick blanket down to protect the paint and watch the harness plug for your backup sensors. I set my bumper on mine and it left some small indents in the top center.
