Skirt below GT lower front facia removed

There was a little soft plastic skirt ( I'm at a loss for a better description) that was below my lower front facia. Part of it came off and I trimmed it so it wouldn't look weird. I know this is a dumb question, but I love this car so much that everything about it makes me paranoid. Does this skirt being missing from my car have any negative effects?

Its for aerodynamics ... worse case is your front end lifts at 220 MPH ... :) FYI ... the 2010 cars did not have this ... it was a 2011 change.

Thank you so much for posting this. It helped put my mind at ease.

It's basically a splash guard. You have a stone deflector behind that. No worries.

Thanks! It didn't seem stiff enough to provide much aerodynamic benefit but I'm a teacher not a new engineer. I appreciate your reply. I feel less paranoid.

why not just fix it right and replace it with a new one...its not like your car is an old pile that isnt worth it?

Lol. I considered replacing it. It tends to rub on almost anything because my car is lowered. I considered pulling it off and then I freaked when it broke and I had to pull it off. I haven't noticed any issues so far.

I received a message from a member here who said to peek under a boss 302 and you'll notice it doesn't have that skirt. I looked under my buddies boss and he was right. I feel much better about removing it now.

Hi Mr. V...is this the part that you are talking about? See #12 below:

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Njc3WDQxOQ..._id=880000500F

I ran over a huge tree branch on the freeway, and I have a tear on the deflector part of the lower cover...was it easy to remove this piece?

Getportfolio 4/22/14 02:36 PM

Lol I removed mine yesterday. About 9 screws. No jack needed.

Tell me about it...the cheapest I found was $163 w/ free shipping...I haven't looked under the car yet, but when you mentioned 9 screws...are we talking about just using a phillip screwdriver?

Getportfolio 4/22/14 04:33 PM

You can get it for 95 bucks at amazon. Still highway robbery.

It's screws are actually a ratchet head. I used a screwdriver with a ratchet head. If you have ratchet set then you are good.

Trust me, it's easy to remove. Hard part is paying those prices.

My 2010 GT Has that Guard On it (#15)

dmhines 4/23/14 08:18 AM

The 2010's have that part #12 installed .. but the part was changed in 2011 .. adding a 2 inch air-spoiler to it underneath the front end.

Kript2night 4/23/14 08:35 AM

I meant to put #12 please excuse me LMAO

Thanks...checked on amazon and it appears that it is for a 2010 model...as the part # doesn't match...I see that the price just went up for that one, too...

Good to know there is a difference...thanks.

In that case I would try Levit town ford supercenter or Tousley ford.

I'm not sure why the design changed in 11 but the larger lip looks ugly in my opinion. It's basically a splash guard.

Getportfolio 4/23/14 09:55 AM

And amazon raised the price overnight. I looked before I posted yesterday. Crooks!
