Adding mud flaps to a GT
 

I think there's a thread somewhere on this but I couldn't find it and the search feature is down for some time now. If anyone has the link please post!

I know the GT500s are a popular choice. Are they worth the $??
-Does anyone have any pics of these installed on a GT?
-How is the fitment/install? drilling into metal?
-What is a good deal for a set of the GT500s?

Hi there, I just met a fellow 2011 GT owner at the Cars & Coffee by me this past Saturday, and he showed me the rear mud flap splash guards on his car. They looked and fit perfectly, and they really cleaned up the rear part of the wheel opening very nicely. He told me they are OEM Ford Shelby GT500, rears only (no fronts). Ironically, he told me that he tried to fit a set of 'regular' Mustang rear mud flap splash guards on his car and they don't line up correctly - not sure what that is...? Regardless, I'm going to my Ford dealer tomorrow to get GT500s, I think the price is around $25 each. There is no drilling, uses existing screws and holes. I'll post pics once installed. Here's a stock pic:

JLT has carbon fiber front and rear ones available, but at about $100 a pair. LEwis26 has them and I think he has some pics around here somewhere.

nice, i found a set for 50 something for the GT500s, I didnt know if that was a good deal...

GT500 ones are $23 each and take 5-10 minutes to install. I wouldn't waste the money on CF ones. I had an install thread on the flaps, just search my name and you should be able to find it.

Only reason I suggested JLT is because they offer front and rear. GT500 are a better deal, but they only protect the rear. I started a thread a while back asking for assistance but there was nothing close to oem for F&R. Anyone with wider than stock front tires can agree with me that they're needed on the front as well.

I love my my CF ones. Look awesome and completely protect the car much better than the tiny GT500 ones do.

I had to remove my rear tires in order to get the GT500 splash guards on because I didn't have a low profile screwdriver or ratchet to clear the tires.

BUT, if you do remove the rear tires, do what I did: buy a couple of cans of rubberized undercoating spray and go to town in the wheel wells.

this will quiet down a bit of roadnoise and will eliminate that nasty tinny sound when you drive on a gravel road and the gravel hits the inside wells.

GT500 flaps are low pro and do the job, and very easy to install... plug and play, just screw right in... u would need a ratcheting Philips head if u don't wanna take off the wheel... I paid about $60 for the pair from the dealer

Yes. They protect more than any of the plastic ones and look better IMO.

Nice, thanks for all the replies. Of course you made my decision harder now!! I like the JLTs but dont know if Im gonna spend that money on mud flaps. Rather buy the GT500s and save the other $50 for something else. $210 for fronts and rears.

Would be nice to actually show face at my local dealer but Tousley Ford might be a better deal

It does say ford accessories, not OEM parts....hm, are mud guards accessories???

I was at the dealer today, and ordered mine. OEM Shelby GT500 mud flap splash guards, left side and right side. Parts should be in by tomorrow or Wed. They are considered an OEM part, and not an accessory, I asked the dealer. But still, they are only $27 each. And I saw them on some Shelbys there, and it re-confirmed for me that I like that subtle touch.
