A few people have PMed me to ask how I did the foglight Airflow grille mod...

I went to Lowes and bought some gutter metal screen, painted it with plastiDip ( also purchased at lowes)
used the screws from the fog lights and bent the screen into place nice and flush. Turned out great for a low cost mod!

Kinda like the idea behind the Boss302S grille.... flow into the Air inlet tube to the airbox is right behind the drivers side foglight. as seen in the pics below.

THat's awesome!! Wish I still had my 2010 Grill with the Black Pony!

VERY cool. Nice work and thanks for sharing! Just a thought regarding durability, stone chips, etc...

Do you think it would be better if primed and painted flat black first, so if it chips/peels, then black would still be behind it?

U could yeah, but if it ever gets chipped its an easy fix to spray it again without ever having to remove it!

Good man.

To the OP: Nice work. Looks really good. Loving the white with the SVT wheels.

bones302 1/9/12 12:38 PM

Nice job. looks good!

obviously works best if you already have fogs on your CS lower. If you purposely remove your only set of fogs to do this mod, then that would be loco.

whokilledkaji 1/10/12 09:17 PM

That looks pretty awesome!

Thomas S 1/12/12 04:41 PM

That is cool as hell! :nice:

stangfoeva 1/19/12 12:13 PM

The only thing your car is missing is glass roof to complete the storm trooper look :nice: Very nice!

dmhines 1/19/12 12:32 PM

I tried this mod the other night. I could not get the screen looking that nice. I would love to see the backside of the grill to see how you have that mesh in there. For now I put the saleen grill in.

2012GTCS 1/19/12 03:29 PM

When you get the mod working and want to sell the Saleen Grille, PM me! lol

I completely agree. The CS lower facia with working fogs makes this mod very practical. Looks great! Best looking white GT I've seen in a long time.

Thanks Guys..
the mod takes some massaging to get just right, but it is well worth it!
You can see the air induction directly behind the drivers side screen.
The only shot I have from behind the grille is these two:

Lack 2/7/12 12:47 PM

Awesome. :hail:

I have a GT/CS front valance in the mail and I think I'll do this at the same time I'm putting that on.

Muskao 2/7/12 02:06 PM

What about putting the screen over fogs on grill?? Talk about extra protection...

06GT 2/9/12 12:23 AM

NICE, good job...turned out great!

Looks good!

I've been considering this too. I'm wondering if anyone has any insight about why Ford has chosen to use such a small opening in the grill? Even if the fog lights are just fog lights, there is still sealed up grill area inboard each light. Beyond that, cars without fog lights, have essentially the exact same open area due to large sealed sections:

Never understood it myself. Unless it is designed to funnel the air to that specific area where the opening is? Maybe keeps dirt/dust out of engine better?

4valve-GT 6/11/12 08:13 PM

I may have to try this!

SilverSkoundrel 6/11/12 08:33 PM

I may do this on my 05

On the prior 05-09 models, on open upper grille was causing too much pressure under the hood. Unless you vented the hood to release air behind the radiator, it had nowhere else to go. I recall there were last minute aero changes to improve fuel efficency for 2010 and again in 2011.

"Compared to the last generation body style, Ford said the 2010 Mustang had 23 percent less aerodynamic lift at the front with a new slotted panel installed under the radiator to direct air, 50 percent better in front/rear lift balance, and seven percent less aerodynamic drag. For 2011, the company has lowered the front air dam and added a front splitter and an underbody aero shield to improve aerodynamics by another 4 percent."

Thanks! That does make sense for sure. Here is what I am considering:

UPDATE: After monitoring the IATs on my Aeroforce, I have consistently seen the temps at ambient temp or cooler. Before the mod the temps were 10deg on average and hotter on a hot sunny day!
Great mod guys....
