DSS Driveshaft 13-14 V6

Hey guys, i just got the DSS 1-piece aluminum driveshaft installed today. But i hear a clunk sound when i put the gear in Drive or Reverse.

I am uploading a video link that i made to show you guys how it sounds. The car drives great with the driveshaft. I went to 85 on the highway after installing it today and everything seems to be fine.

But this noise seems very strange to me. Hope someone can chime in quickly here.

I don't have a solution, but it does sound like some driveline slop echoing through the new driveshaft.

I think this is a very known thing. You might be able to search forum for more information.

Can't find much on the forum. Contacted DSS, showed them the video and they said it's normal. And if i want the clunk sound removed, the rear axle/pinion needs to be rebuilt (whatever the heck that means...)

Got the bolts re-torqued, and the clunk is still there. Noticeable, but not loud.

After reading on the forums, they say it's because of the joint/adapter plate DSS give you. (Not many details there like i said)

So now, i don't know what to do. Maybe should get a tune and get that limiter removed :D

But hate that clunk noise when putting the car in drive or reverse.

It's normal. I had one installed last November. Not a DSS, but one from Axle Exchange. I called the shop and the vendor to verify everything was ok after I heard the clunks.

Yup, the 2 piece shaft actually dampens the noise with the rubber in there. So we never heard that noise before installing the 1 piece where there's no dampening.

I'll be curious how the one piece carbon fiber unit sounds when I install it. It will either be this weekend or next since I plan on installing it when I install the SC.

carbon fiber has more dampening as compared to aluminum, so you might still hear it, but not as much as us aluminum guys..

Interesting that you hear it when putting it in D or R ... Wonder if this "clunking" sound would be noticeable for anyone with a manual transmission going in an out of gears.

I have the same Driveshaft and mine is a manual. I do not hear any noise engaging in drive or reverse.

Daniyal if you have a tune, lower your idle 100-150 rpm.

Yes, i just tuned my car today. I will lower the idle to 100 rpm and see what happens.

Why do you suggest this?

David Young 7/29/15 04:10 AM

Lower your idle 100-150 rpm less than the normal idle speed of 650-750 rpm. Lower it to 550-600 rpm and see how it does.

iceD 7/29/15 11:57 AM

Okay, i will try that today.

Does anyone have any idea what their tuned idle is set at from BAMA/MPT/STEEDA?

I have BAMA 91/87P/87S Tunes. And, If I remember right all of them idle at around 1100 RPM cold and idle 900 RPM warm.

iceD 8/3/15 03:05 PM

mine idles at 650rpm with the tune.

I called BAMA and they said they set the idles at 800rpm for their performance tunes.

SpectreH 8/3/15 03:28 PM

No clunk with the CF unit, and the Procharger canned tune upped the idle to about 750 RPM.

Scheduled a dyno tune session on Aug 12.
