thanks. but had to get the mt down to 20 psi just to get traction. i have on sight a torc. concerter and stickier tires. should get me on low 11 high 10.

Bad advice. Gears will do nothing for him.

A converter will make a significant difference especially in your 60ft. No need to change gears.

He's running 3.15's. How the hell would gears not help? I am more than positive that 3.73 or 4.10 will bring that ET up. Convertor will help also of course. A little more rear suspension tricks will help too. There's a local GT here with about the same hp as him pulling 9's. Fat ET streets auto running 4.10's. Just has more rear suspension work done. Change those gears man. Nobody is pulling the numbers they want on 3.15's.

Many have thought gears were the answer only to find out they weren't. I've been 11.2 N/A on stock 3.15's. All the fastest N/A autos are running a 3.15 or a 3.31 gear.

Unless you have any personal experience here my suggestion is to not make any suggestions at all since you'll just look bad in the end. ;)

I haven't seen any 5.0's pulling 10's without gears. Maybe 4.10 may be a little much for the autos but at the least 3.73. Like I said though, I've seen nobody pulling good 10's with 3.15's. In fact nobody drag races with highway gears.

How about a 10.59 with 3.31's?

He's got a Paxton. Plenty of guys running 9's with 3.15's.;)

My point is why don't change em? Sure there's exceptions but most of the fast cars all run low gears. If you're try to prove a point with 3.15's the go ahead but go with what is proven. I've seen a lot of guys stuck in 11's with high gears.

If he is already having traction issues a lower gear would only make them worse for the time being. Lower gears will also change your shift points and can mean you need to shift more which can mean lower ets, though to be fair shouldn't affect an auto trans as much and will depend more on the setup.
Sticky tires and suspension mods would better suit him at this point.

Why not change them? Simple. The autos have aggrssive gears in the transmissions which is why they come with 3.15's. Anything over a 3.31 gear will have the cars shifting into 4th before the stripe thus dropping the cars out of their power band. To much gear will also cause traction problems off the line. It can also cause the car to shift into 2nd before the 60ft. Not smart. The cars need a converter.

You keep saying it can't be done and I've given you more than enough proof. There's a list on S197 and all the fastest autos are running a 3.15-3.31 gear.

The ironic thing here is you don't even own of these cars, have zero first hand experience, but come across as all knowing. See my point?

So I don't own one or drive one. What does any of this have to do with drag racing highway gears. Like I said, sure it's been done with 3.15's. First hand watching some of the fastest auto GT's here have changed to lower ratios. There's no rational explanation to keep such a high gear. He won't lose any time even if he shifts to 4th since the blower will still be pushing full hp. Spinning can be fixed. Not swapping to a lower ratio because of wheel spin is just stupid. Right now there's 3 auto GT's locally in 9's on stock long blocks. One with nitrous and two with small blowers. All with low gears and great suspension work out back. Two for sure are daily drivers. With a $6k blower, might as well see what he can do by dropping the ratio for $500. To state that gears are useless or will hurt ET's is just ridiculous.

Gear change will force him into od at the end of 1/4.

4th gear on the auto is 1.14-1 so this is false also.

No it is not false. It will force a shift into 4th thus dropping him out of his power range and slowing him down.

Again you have zero experience here but act like you have the answers. But you don't. Keep making yourself look bad though.

Is your car running 10's? Do you know what a powerband looks like on a blower car? Quit getting all upset buddy. My recommendation is lowering that gear ratio. This is all. If you disagree, then that's wonderful. In all my years of building cars and racing, I've never seen a car lose time by lowering a gear ratio from highway gears unless going too low. We can disagree but I'm just not certain that are a key authority either. :p
