Ordering a MGW - lots of questions!
Hi folks. I got word today that my '14 GT Track Pack is supposed to arrive a week earlier than previously expected, so I figured it is time to get the first round of mod ordering underway.
I have decided to go with the MGW shifter. Can I only get it direct thru MGW?
I want to get a new shift **** as well. I don't really like the stock style ****. My car is Sterling Gray Metallic with the leather Recaros. I think a solid black **** with the shift pattern is what I want. MGW calls it the "Classic Black Shift Ball." $39. Any other / better classic black shift ***** out there? Links / prices?
Should I go with the stock thread pitch M12x1.25, or the MGW M12x1.75? Are other aftermarket ***** typically the OEM pitch or the M12x1.75 pitch?
Is the Deluxe Jam Nut & Washer worth the extra $10? Is it for a functional purpose or just aesthetic?
I've heard of some folks putting dynamat under the factory sound deadener. Is that something I should consider?
Any other tips/info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Really getting jazzed now that delivery day is getting closer. Still need to order Redline hood struts, Weathertech floor mats, and finalize my exhaust choice - Borla S axle back, GT500 quad tips, or Boss 302 side exit h-pipe.

Yes you can only get the shifter direct from MGW.
Shift **** is going to be up to you. I reused the stocker so I went with the M12X1.25 stick. from what I've seen there are similar options available for either thread pitch. As far as the Deluxe Jam Nut, No experience but if your going with an aftermarket **** then why not get it ?
The Kit comes with Dynamat and I used it all. Around the shifter opening and all over the shifter assembly.
I watched the install video's the night before as a refresher and then just followed the directions. Took me just under 2 hours by myself although I did have my 7 year old daughter help me hold the washers in place for the rear bracket but that was it.
The Boot was the toughest part but not horrible best tip would be start it from the rear edge and work forward.

Got the shifter ball a couple weeks ago. Perfect Match with the stripes. I'm on my way to a grad class and on my phone so when I get back ill tell you more about the measurements!

Here is the black mgw shift ball with the deluxe jam nut, for the price, i definitely recommend the jam nut, it just looks much cleaner with it.

Thanks fellas. The jam nut looks very clean - looks like I'll be adding that to the plan. I'm leaning now toward the white ball - to break up all the black in the interior.
Regarding the street or race bracket. Is the rear bushing ( street vs race ) something you have to choose when you order, or do they provide you with 2 bushings ( street and race ) that you can slip into the bracket? Which are you guys running and why?

I installed mine on jacks stands. Took my time, ending up being 4hrs. I highly recommend removing the driveshaft bracket as well, drops the DS another 2 inches. That makes all the difference in the world. I will also recommend having either air or electric impact gun. I used the 18v Harbor Freight gun, it was a lifesaver when working on my back...

I just want to hop on here and give a compliment to MGW as a company.
I bought my MGW a few months ago, but due to other obligations I hate to wait a couple of months to install it. As i was installing it, I was being dumb and tried to stretch the dust boot around the shifter using a flathead screwdriver and ended up ripping it pretty much in half.
I finished the install without it and called MGW to order a replacement. I explained what i had done and at first they told me it would $10 for a new one, which wasn't a big deal, they verified my shipping information, and then hung up. About 2 minutes later, they called back and told me they'd ship it out immediately and that the shifter was under warranty and everything would be free.
I was taken aback and made sure they knew the dust boot had torn because I was being a dumba**, they said they understood but it was under warranty regardless. MGW not makes a great prodcut, but they're a great company. They've definitely earned my loyalty and business in the future.

Impressive response from a quality company!
I just installed my shifter yesterday. The rubber boot seriously needs a redesign. Like you I resorted to a screwdriver to get the boot around the shifter. I still managed to put a slight tear in it trying to stretch it. What a PIA. In my opinion the only negative aspect of the shifter assembly. In the end I decided to live with it as is. I also ordered both thread options and the deluxe jam nut so I can swap between my white and black shift *****.
I also received the new track bracket and opted to use some of the dynamat instead of the rtv between the bracket and floorpan. Hopefully this works out. I'll have to wait until I get a chance to drive it before I can comment on any NVH.

Well - I finally ordered the MGW tonight, with the classic white shift **** and the deluxe jam nut. I can't wait until it gets here. Next on the mod list...some Borla S axle backs and probably some window tint!
Thanks everyone for your input. That, along with the really nice install video on the MGW site, made me realize the MGW is the right choice. I'd rather save my pennies for a little longer to be able to afford the highest-quality items, and that's why I went with the MGW and will go with Borla. I saved for so long to buy this GT...so I'm not going to skimp on any mods.
