NGK 6510 Iridium spark plugs on a boosted Mustang 5.0*

Folks... I swapped out my Ford Racing plugs (I forget the part # of the Ford ones, but they're the degree colder plugs) for the NGK Iridium 6510's, at the request of my tuner and other folks.

I haven't really driven her much since I did this on Tuesday night, at least not enough to notice a difference.

My question is, for those of you that have these installed, ESPECIALLY in a boosted application like mine, how do you like it? Observations? Differences? (compared to others) Pros, cons? From my research, it's supposed to be "better" in terms of drivability, and throttle response, esp on WOT.

Thoughts?

p.s. changing the spark plugs was SO easy, now that I've done it a couple times. One of the most fun things to do. I got it done in under an hour.

I wonder why he wanted you to run TR6s since I was told to run TR7's which is a degree colder than the 6s. I know we have different superchargers but boost is boost and I'm pushing 9lbs. Anyways I'm happy with mine, but I need to pull them and take a look at them.

What he said. I also run a TR7. The car runs great. No blowing out the kernel under boost.

Guys... not sure what made you guys think that I am running TR6.

The NGK 6510 is TR7. In fact, it's LTR7IX-11.

So since both of you are running it, please provide your thoughts, etc?

p.s. mine are gapped to 0.030".

I see you went all technical on us and listed the part number. I just assumed seeing the 6510 = TR6.
It's a good thing that the tuner had you change them out, just makes it a little safer when you mash the pedal.

yeah... so what are your thoughts on the plug itself? You've been running it for how long? any issues?

It will be a year in April or 9k in miles. As I mentioned I'm going pull my plugs and read them to see how she's running. So far no complaints. I did see that VMP now recommends Brisk Racing RR14S spark plugs over the NGK's.

What gap are you running? I see Fromzto5 is using .030

Yea mine were recommended at 0.030 to 0.031. The ford racing ones I had before were 0.032 I think.

Thanks, yes if I remember correctly the Ford ones are .032. I'm thinking about changing mine out here pretty soon and was doing some research on gap.
If you can report back after you give them a thorough break in.

I've used NGK Iridium in my other cars (Acura GSR - Redline was 8,100RPMS) my understanding about these plugs versus stock plugs are reliability and consistency. You get a more consistency with these quality plugs. They won't wear out as fast and can handle more abuse over stock plugs. I don't recall ever reading or feeling more power or anything like that.

I will definitely use them when i'm due to replace mine in the next year or two. peace of mind if worth every penny.

Sorry I forgot to update this thread. Plugs went in a week and a half ago. With the latest tune upgrades and data logs, everything looks perfect. From my understanding it's a more consistent spark etc, especially under load.

Good to hear. They also allow you run a little extra gap for better burn =little more powa.
