If I am going to buy a 2011 5.0 with Brembo Brakes what axle ratio should I get???

I will mod this vehicle and am wondering about having to shift into 5th gear in the quarter mile. Is this a real concern? I do want to put up some good 1/4 mile times. So please recommend me a rear axle ratio with this in mind. At this point I am thinking If I just go with lots of bolt-ons for the car I should get the 3.55. If I plan on supercharging, get the 3.31 gears. Leaving vehicle stock = 3.73. Is this a good rule of thumb ? Is having to shift into 5th a big deal in the 1/4 mile? If going with 3.73's ,.. how much power increase over stock do you think it would take to make it necessary to shift into 5th in the 1/4 mile? thx guys

Who said you will be shifting into 5th inthe 1/4 mile...more like deep into 4th. I would go with the 3.73's..if you notice even the GT500's can come with 3.73's. Granted the gearing in the tranny is not as aggressive but they do have them.

4th gear at 6500 rpm with 3.55 will be about 110 depending on tire size

I say track time you should go for a 3,73 and rev that engine like it was meant to do. It is also a user friendly gear with a 6 speed car. And have it factory installed of course, not worth the hassle. Owned 2 5.0 's in the past and did gear swap to them. Ask me how i know !

are you going to mod it to go more than 119 at the traps?
that's what the 3.55s will give you in 4th gear, 3.31s will net you ~133 at the limiter

if you have 3.73 it's 112mph but you could run a bigger tire and tune for a few hundred rpm at the fuel cutoff
ex.: using a 305/45/18 nitto 555r will give 4-5 mph more room before the limiter

so how fast you think you want the car to trap?
answer that and go with the gear you need

What's wrong with shifting into 5th in the 1/4?

It's a 1:1 ratio, not overdrive.

If drag racing is your only concern for performance, and streetability is secondary, then a ratio even deeper than the 3.73's would be better. A 4.30 gear would get you to 128 mph in 5th at redline and would be the killer drag race gear.

If you want to know what factory gear to get that will get you as good a strip performance as possible, whether modded or not, get the 3.73's.

Yar.

This motor + 3.73 + supercharger + decent slicks = ~11 flat= ownage

And with 4.30's it would be a 10 second car.

Ya but that really wouldn't be a street car.

I never said it would, I said the opposite, I said it would be a killer drag racing gear.

If it is to be mainly a street performance car the 3.73's are the way to go, and this is ALSO what I stated above.

Exactly what I was gonna say. Doubt you'll ever see 5th 3.73s only get you ~10% and my car with 3.31s will break 100 in third. Never wound out 4th fully. With a supercharger it becomes a game of traction, you won't want anything a bit higher than 3.31s. I've had problems with kicking the back out trying to carefully roll into 2nd at 40ish mph on 305 nt05's. Without airing down to less than 30psi on these tires (305/30/20 not radials) it'll smoke them in third, just doesn't really have problems tracking straight like 2nd. Thats with a full bmr suspension setup, cage, and chassis bracing, its just too much for street tires Figure out what you're gonna do first.

I'm talking about it from a this is my DD perspective of course, if you're gonna park it during the week and pit a set of fatty radials and not worry about rain it might be different, idk.

Especially if you scroll down the pages too quicky, you'll end up in the next thread without realizing ... :dunno:
