How Long Does An Engine Idle Relearn(After Tuning) Take?
... I'm just curious. Tune was done 3 days ago, but I've only been able to drive it this morning. At idle or stopped at a light, tach needle does a continuous small sweep from about 800-850rpm. Sometimes it dips a bit more then shoots up. Car never stalls or anything like that. Tune feels pretty strong with OEM-like drive-ability.
Oh! Installed a Steeda 101mm CAI, while I was at it. |
No relearn for these I believe. The idle rpm is set in the tune. I would check all the connections in the CAI.

who did the tune?

you should not be having any issue.
I had a similar issue when I installed a 85MM throttle body I had to start it run for a second or two. shut it down and then restart it. a few more times. In my experience the car has to shut down before the learned computer changes take place. |

I was told idle for 5 mins, turn a/c on for 5 mins, then let idle with a/c off for 5 mins

My stock tune jumps around between 620-720 when the car is warmed up. Anyone else?

I'm going to check/try all of the recommendations. Other than me noticing this, everything seems to be functioning fine. Fuel economy seems like it has improved a bit, as well. I don't even think that it is idling rough, but it has a noticeable pulse-like character. I'll attempt to attach a video of it a bit later after work... I'll show both a tach and an A/F Ratio(via Livewire TS) video of the idle.
Before I out the tuner, I would like to see if this persists before I contact them this Tuesday. |
Quick clips of the issue...

Mine never did when I installed my tune. Once the cold start fast idle was done it stayed right at 750. So I figured the new computers didn't have to learn the idle. Op did you install the CAI yourself? Maybe the MAF has some crap on it. Maybe try cleaning it?

I checked around under the hood and everything looks to be connected. I'll check the MAF sensor during daylight. Greatly appreciate the help. |
If you don't see anything and it doesn't sort itself out. I would take it back to the shop.

Does your CAI have an insert to allow use with out a tune?
My Airraid had one and I used it not knowing and I had a rough idle and a small miss on acceleration. Removed the insert and got the proper air flow the tune required and all was good. |

He said they used a Steeda CAI. They do not have an insert With the unusual idle the vehicle did not stall... until this morning. Warmed her up for about 8 minutes(idled fine until about the 5 minute mark), drove off for a few blocks, then while stopped at a red light the vehicle cut off. I started her back up, revved it a bit, then continued with no other incident. |
did you do a KAM reset? (Keep Alive Memory)
I usually do this when changing tunes. |
The Livewire TS doesn't always reset KAM when it installs a new tune. First thing I would suggest is simply returning to stock and re-installing the exact same tune.
This has happened to me more than once and that usually cures it. Now that being said there are certain tune changes that will cause this as well. Hope this helps. -Mike |
