Ford Custom Tune ??
Ford Custom Tune ??
It's been a long time since I've modified a mustang or any car for that matter and it seems that lots of things have changed when it comes to what used to be simple "bolt ons." It used to be easy (injectors, MAF, TB, etc) but it seems that now everything requires modification of the computer via a "custom tune." After reading numerous threads about #8 failures and warranties being "voided" it makes me think twice about doing anything to my car. I've contemplated the boss intake, but have read about some "bad tunes" causing catastrophic failure and by all means I want to avoid that at all costs.
I've modified many diesels, and both my Harleys with less restrictive exhaust and custom air intakes and have always been able to take the bikes into the dealership and get a download (stage 1, 2, 3) into the factory computer for the setup I'm running. This allows the warranty to remain intact (minus aftermarket parts failure). I don't like the idea of a "fooler" which is all that most "chips" are. Question is...... Does Ford offer anything similar?

Either Mod your car or don't. The good tuners are not the causes of the "#8 failures". Steeda has these motors figured out better than Ford. I wouldn't own a GT without a Steeda tune. They actually run parameters in their tune which aid in the cooling of the cylinders. Go Steeda or Go stock.
I was concerned about the same thing with my last GT. A shop in jersey (Big Daddy Performance) that i have been going to for years actually came up with a solution for the 05-10's....it was a c&l intake (the big one, forget the name) but used a recalibrated MAF sensor. What you got was a larger, aftermarket intake without the need for the tune. The unique thing is that it was actually a power adder, unlike alot of the 'notune' intake kits. Not sure if something liek that is out for the '12s but worth looking into.
But, I've gotta agree with 2012GT on this, either mod it or not. I would say forget about it, mod it, enjoy it. The odds are in your favor if you stick with a reputable tune.

The best way I can describe it is like this.....if you read the internet u will be bombarded with mt-82, number 8, front end clunking threads. As with everything it only takes a few cases to make a huge splash especially on these forums. With that being said, you are either a mod guy who doesn't give a **** about the warranty or your not. With these cars pretty much everything your gonna do to the engine is gonna require a tune which is going to void the warranty. Sucks but that's the way ford is playing it. I would say enjoy your car in what ever way that won't made u delirious. Congrats on the car and welcome.

Seriously, the #8 problem has occurred with cars tuned from seval reputable tuners. Yes, Steeda seems like a good organization but please don't spread nonsense that you can't back up with facts.
). You can lean these motors out and get some crazy dyno numbers from a tune and CAI alone. However, we have all seen the result of that in stock cars and from the tuners that leaned the motors and deleted knock sensors. It has something to do with a #6 or #2 or some cylinder number; I forget
. Anyways, if you run the motors a tad on the rich side it actually aids in the cooling of that #<I can't even say it anymore> cylinder as well as the entire motor and is better than the factory settings. Steeda tunes are insanely aggressive but are safe on that stupid cylinder and you don't have to worry about it. Think about it guys, how hot it is there in Pompano Beach, Florida where they test and run the SH*T out of their own cars? NONE have had that cylinder go boom. Just use a little logic and look at the results and their success. I'm not bashing any of the other top tuners but I am pretty sure Steeda is the only one batting 1.000.Oh just for you Mr GTX
