First time tuning
Im hoping i can have some light shed on the world of tuning. I recently put a C&L street CAI on my automatic 5.0. it throw a code stating the air-fuel ratio was imbalanced. Although it stated no retune will be necessary. So i'm thinking about going ahead and getting a tune installed. After reading a few threads on the forums, I've made myself nervous about passing emissions.. I was originally thinking bama as it is a decent price, but there seems to be a lot of negative feedback, although the large amount of negative feedback should be expected from a larger company. What is the real deal, are they good, bad, and will i actually pass emissions?
Thanks in advance! |
Plenty of people like Bama tunes, but I have two friends who have had trouble with their tunes. They went for Lund and were happy.

Generally a tuned car will pass emissions as long as they have not turned off the oxygen sensors in the tune. Verify this with your desired tuner before purchase.

People had had troubles with their Bama tunes... But so have other people with other tunes. So...

Thanks in advance! Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal before the install, or at least disconnect it for a while before trying to start the car after the install?? I had BAMA tuning on my 13' and never had a problem. Went with VMP with my RS3 because BAMA doesn't tune Roush TVS Cars. |
all the negative feedbacks on BAMA were before the V2 tune. their new tunes are good and have no issue with driveability. it is 1 year now that i have used their V2 tunes. it will wake up your auto 5.0 really good.

Also consider Steeda and for FI applications ! Brenspeed and JDM engineering are considered as 2 of the best tuning specialists in the industry and have nearly 20 years of R&D experience to back it up..

thanks for the replies everyone! ill definitely research a little more before i make the purchase. Ive seen a lot of people with steeda very happy with what they got.

I've had the BAMA V2 tune for a year now. Zero issues. Really woke the car up and (mines an automatic) shifts are very firm and precise. Very satisfied!

I picked VMP for my auto 14 and it's a very good tune. The car's an animal without being stupidly harsh.

I have had a BAMA TUNE on my 2012 for about 2 years. Just changed my plugs and went with Performance Distrubtors coil on plug kit. BAMA had me running really rich so I went with a Brendpeed tune. I'm presently waiting on them to adjust it due to it not shifting correct at WOT.

There is no emissions testing in my state. I think that it would be fine though.

Double and triple check your installation for vacuum leaks around fittings, hose junctions, couplers etc. Probably a simple rescale of the MAF table (tune wise) is all that is needed to get her purring if all else checks out with the install.
