Firmer shifts?

How do I make the Automatic have firmer shifts? I went with the automatic so the wife can drive it if she has to but I would like the gears to hit harder like my old Chevelle with a TH350 did.

A good tune should do the trick.

Check out BAMA tunes with the DiabloSport In-Tune I1000. They will do automatics, link can be found on American Muscle too.

A good tune from VMP, Lund, Steeda, or AED. Certainly not Bama.

In addition to what all the other posters have suggested, a good tune will make it shift like you want...

lol, thanks!

So do you think a tune might do the trick or do I need to get an adapter and hook up an old TH350 to it?

I run a Brenspeed tune in mine and the tires will definitely chirp for a couple of gears without much effort.

Get a good tune and they can adjust your shift pressure as firm as you want it. Plus there are other benefits from a tune than just shift firmness.

In one of my old cars that was automatic there was a common modification called "drop resistor" mod. Now I have no idea if the Mustangs have a similar wiring setup where this particular resistor can be bypassed, but basically it modulates the pressure in the tranny to support slower smoother shifts or higher pressure resulting in faster shifts. I believe bypassing the resistor I guess it was just told the tranny to allow full pressure to bang through the gears. The obvious downside was there was no in between setting, so it was either OEM or full pressure aka HARD shifts every time.

I wired in a little switch in my old car to allow it to be enabled "on demand"

This was the poor mans version of a tune I have since moved on to manual tranny cars, so I've been far removed from the automatic world for quite a while. But something to research perhaps!

No need to reinvent the wheel here. A simple tune on an auto makes all the difference in the world.

Any reason several people left out Bama from the tunes to get? I have 2011 auto and was looking into tunes as well for firming up the ****s.

They're not as good as the others.

I would go with vmp or amazon for an auto and steeda for manual. I have an auto and the steeda shifting does some weird stuff(explained in other posts I've made). Steeda makes awesome power but the auto shifting is not right.

I just installed a tune from C&L on my new 2014 Automatic GT, what a difference is shifting. Really pleased so far.

Ok, can someone give their opinion as to why the Bama tune isn't as good as the others mentioned here? Is it too safe or does it not get enough HP or have people had issues with it?

Bama's tunes are safe for one thing because of their #8 warranty. But the truth of the matter is their tunes just do not match up as far as shifting with the others. They just don't stack up with the others as far as performance goes. But hey, they have many fooled as they are the best marketing company going.

Thank you for info.

I have the airraid CAI, and thought I had no choice but to go bama. Can I still go vmp tune with an airraid CAI?
