Automatic Drag Racing Techniques
Whats up guys, I already started my welcome thread in the general section, but now its time to get down to business. This is my first automatic car so what I would like to know is the best 1320 techniques. TC on or off? Foot brake? How much? Car is bone stock now with approx 500 miles. Any input appreciated! Thx

With street tires, just drive around the water, spin your tires just to clean them off, and launch from an idle. I did this with my wife's 2011 V6 Auto with 3.31s and got a 13.8 @ 102. Punching the gas from an idle worked best for me. It just broke loose in 1st and 2nd if I raised the RPMs before launch. Ideally, if you had some decent track tires, you would powerbrake to the point your tires don't break loose and launch from there. Each car is different, so it takes a few passes to get it right.
The automatics can hang just as well as the manuals, and I (a rookie driver) have gotten a 12.75 in mine. You should at least be able to knock off a 13.0 in an automatic with just a few runs' practice. |

If the best you can do is a 13.8, then you fo'shizzle should not be launching from an idle. You should always be brake torquing; the amount of throttle you apply at the launch is what determines how much you spin the tires.
