412 HP w/ 91 octane, what about 93?
Will 93 octane offer any additional benefits?

Maybe, you know on the 2010 4.6 you can get 10 extra ft.lbs.

Well, 2010 is a 87 octane car, and putting super unleaded in it is good for and extra 10 ft.lbs. between 1000 and 3500 because the knock sensors don't intervene and retard the timing.

This is from Ford's 11.6.07 Press Release for the 08 Bullitt where Adaptave Spark Ignition was first used:
Engine performance is further enhanced through the use of an innovative adaptive spark ignition system, new for the 2008 [Bullitt] Mustang. The system can sense, within a few seconds, what type of fuel is being injected into the motor and adjusts the spark to provide maximum torque at any given speed – and as much as 10 pounds-feet more between 1,000 and 4,000 rpm. Bullitt can run on either premium or regular fuel. Ford recommends premium fuel for optimum performance, but the adaptive spark ignition will adjust the spark to burn regular fuel without damaging the engine. This is from the 08 Bullitt Mustang Owners Manual: Octane recommendations (Bullitt™* Mustang only) Your vehicle will run normally on 87 octane regular fuel without damaging the engine, but premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 (R+M)/2 or higher is recommended for best overall performance. p. 258 So Ford says 'regular' is 87 and 'premium' is 91 because that is what is widely available across the entire US. It is only recently that 92 is available in my area and I believe that's only because of the 10% ethanol content. 93 is only available in select locations in the US. The only way to eek out a little more performance if 93 is available is to adjust your timing. Otherwise your just wasting your money. And it would only be the slightest more low end torque beyond the 10 pound-feet. |
I don't know if its linear but going from 87 to 91 octane was 400/377 to 412/390. If you get half of the benefit, 418/396? The old software could adjust for 94 octane so I have to imagine the Copperhead software can do the same thing.

there has already been testing done and running 93 octane on the new 5.0. The result/rumors were 30hp increase..this was mentioned over on the BMW forums...I dont have the post handy either..sorry.

Believe what you all will, this guy actually has some inside info on the motor. He has posted this on a couple of different forums as he has a high performance shop up north. Guess we will wait and see what happens, huh?

Well a "Tune" and 93 octane, it's probably possible to get 30 HP out of that.
