2011 Sound Tube
 

Well, I took out both pieces of foam from the sound tube today. Louder in the car, but gives it too much of a tunnel sound. Hard to explain but kind of sounds like the sound is going through a tunnel, a little bit of an echo. I'm going to put the piece back in under the dash, think that will make it louder, but soften the sound somewhat. I'll let you all know.

So far got about 290 miles on it, gonna have to slow that down or I'll have 30K miles in the first year!

Back in the day, we took the air filter lid off....flipped it over, and put it back on.
Didn't need to use a hose to pipe in the sound of a big 4bbl. carb, sucking in all the air!

You could use one of the large diameter electric exhaust cutouts,in the air duct to the throttle body.
Run a large 3 inch hose to the inside of the car. When you give it WOT,the cutout opens,letting air from the interior,and all the sound into the car. Better hold your breath though,it might suck in all the O2!!

I did put the foam back in under the dash and I think that is the way it sounds the best. Adds a little more sound into the cabin, but softens it so it sounds natural.

Some have tried cutting the foam plug in half to modify the sound also.

Boy, I loved that sound.
I probably did that on every car I owned back then unless I changed the filter housing completely.

Thats only because old cars had such crappy fitment of insulation and sound deadening.

Its a testiment of how well the 2010+ mustangs are built that it needs a sound tube for the sound to get in.

My favorite was my '79 400, 4 speed, WS6 Trans Am that I opened up the shaker scoop on. That old quadrajet sure would scream!

The FRPP open CAI reminds me of those days.

Yes but along with all that crappy fitments and lack of sound deadening was a much lighter car. You almost had to flip the breather so you could drown out the squeaking front suspension. Sure brings me back thinking about it.

As far as old time sound....my 2 personally expierenced favorites.....1965 GTO,with Tri-Power and a
1970 Hemicuda with the dual quads of course!

when i went to the track with my 87 5.0 LX i would remove the stock CAI completely and put a piece of womens stocking over the TB, sounded like a vacuum cleaner when the loud pedal went down

I can hear the air moving through the CAI if the windows are down and I am not moving to fast. I can barely hear it with the windows up. Stock air box was quieter.

You need to hear a big CC aircooled VW stroker motor sucking air through a pair of 48 IDA Webers.

On the 2010s, if you put a CAI on the car, does it eliminate the sound tube?

Most of the companies that offer a CAI specifically for a 2010 have provision to retain the sound tube.

That's what I thought. If you did want to remove it, you'd have to plug the hole in the firewall or disconnect it somewhere along the way and cap it off in the engine bay.

Add an off-road X-pipe and the sound tube will be irrelevant
