They must have figured something out in the wind tunnel. That's very funky!

Zaksgt 2/3/12 01:40 PM

Looks good, hope to see it March 18 In Australia

StangMahn 2/3/12 04:24 PM

I was wondering if the rules dictated that nose, Force India has the same thing.

It's hideous!

2010MustangGT 2/3/12 04:42 PM

looks they they didn't get the memo off the rule change for a lower allowable front wing until 2 days ago.

What do you mean? To me it looks like they're the same wing from picture to picture

Lessee.... Acer, AMD... Right. This car will crash, run hotter than the others, have awful drivers, the graphics on the steering wheel will go wacko... but hey, it'll cost less than others, so there's that.

to me it's just the heinous box design of it. I'm just shocked a team of some of the best aero designers use a glorified sqaured off front... and just slapped a wing on at the lowest level.

But reading into it i suppose it makes sense? :wonder:

The McLaren is much more streamlined. We'll see which design is the best when Red Bull unveils their car. Will they have the hump or not?

On this... F1 is NOT about streamlining... It's about power, downforce, handling, grip, and ubertech.

This wing gives them a better grip advantage than the ones in IndyCar, for example, directly because the wing is unfettered with that nose. The disadvantage of having the nose in the air is likely counter balanced by the enormous suckage downward the wing produces. That, and they have probably aerodynamically negated any lift or even perhaps made a reverse lifting body out of it, further causing the downforce needed to make the car stick. I kinda doubt it, given that article, but they have to work with it anyway. The wings make the car safer by making it stick, thereby making sure it's controllable.

Trust me... they're not idiots. Even if they are using AMD and Acer. :D

/Naw, AMD CPUs are ok, it's that fracking ATI stuff they bought that has made them no good...
//But Acer sucks. A lot.

StangMahn 2/4/12 02:49 PM

These guys employ aerospace engineers and master aerodynamicists, they're not going to do something completely stupid. Rest assured that every inch of space on that car has been engineered to be the best possible within the specs. Any kink, bulge, line, etc. has a purpose.

Towards the end of last season Ferrari tried a different wing but it would 'wobble' left to right and bounce the pavement. So perhaps this is to counteract that.

I love F1, but the cars are getting uglier and uglier (understanding functionality over 'beauty'). I think it is time for a 'clean sheet' approach when the new engines come along . . .

I get that...

I'm just saying it looks like a pile of what my dog makes in the backyard.

THIS

:agree:

Lotus revealed their E20 today. It's got the hump but isn't as pronounced as the Ferrari. Sort of a cross between the McLaren and the F2012.

Zastava_101 2/5/12 09:26 PM

I honestly don't care what they look like, I just hope some of them can stop Sebastien Vettel.

Zastava_101 2/6/12 10:21 PM

Everybody will, most likely, be chasing this car once again.

Who gets a win this season . . . . Kimi, Felipe, or Nico? All? One? None?

I think I like Fred for the title. But a close season, regardless of Champion, would be great.
