Is it Worth trading a '12 for a '14
 

Well first, I loved my '03 Cobra, and l love my '12 Shelby SVTPP. Just a great car. I have added BMR Upper and Lower Control Arms, -1" springs and Adjustable Panhard bar. I handles very, very good -- markedly better than stock and worth every penny.

A 2014 just became available -- Track Pack, Recaros, Shaker Pro and Nav. I'd have to plunk in $23k (difference between '12 and '14). Seems like a ton of cash.

Is a '14 that much better than a '12 ?

I know for around $8K, I could have gobs more HP than the '14.....Whipple 4.5/Injectors/fuel pump/Mono blade/tune/etc.

I would save that 23k, dump that 8k into your current car, and save the rest for when they roll out the new top line model for the mustang. Then use that along with a trade in for the shelby to snag the new latest and greatest!

I wouldn't do it. You could buy recaros, the differential, oil cooler, and radiator for way less. I'm assuming the track pack and recaros is what's pulling you. If it's the style of the 13/14 cars, it comes down to how much you want them.

You'll end up adding the same suspension to the '14 and you can easily add 100 ponies to the '12. IMHO, probably not, but then value is relative.

Unless you have to have a '14 with the launch control and stuff, I would keep the '12 and just add power. JMHO.

I went from a 2011 Shelby GT 500 to a 2014 Shelby GT 500 and I am extremely happy.
It's your money , do what makes you happy !

It is all about whatever YOU want out of the car but I'd agree with modifying some more and then maybe moving up to the next top of the line Mustang. 2016 or so.

Test drove a 11' and own a 14'. Seems to me to be two different animals in the power department.

Keep adding power to your car! It's your toy.

I would say its worth it if YOU think its worth it. Money always helps. If you have the expendable cash go for it

After owning an 11 and test driving a 14 I can tell you that you'll be much happier with a 14. But your most likely going to lose some cash on the trade. Be prepared for high 30's on your trade.

I would have traded in a heartbeat.


The 14 is a much more drivable car than the 12. But with money being a large factor, I can see why you'd want to keep the 12. No matter what, you'll never recoup the cost of all the upgrades / improvements you make to get to the level of the stock 14. The 14 will always have the value of a 14.


But most importantly... the TAIL LIGHTS! One of the biggest reasons we bought the 13 instead of the 12.

The adjustable suspension, adjustable steering, better clutch, smooth idle. It feels more like a daily driver.

Because they are. The '13s and '14s are much more drivable cars than the previous Shelbys, by virtually every car magazine that reviewed them.

The 10-12s improved most of the balance / drivability issues with the 07-09 cars. The 13 / 14s improved on the 10-12s.

Likewise, I expect that the 15s with the IRS & other chassis improvements will be an improvement over the 13-14s. I just want to know how they plan to improve on the 662bhp! Maybe a twin turbo BOSS Coyote engine?
