SJB- 2005 mustang convertible, V6
I am buying a interior SJB for this car on eBay, what does the short barcode with four numbers underneath it stand for? Some people talk about having this box reprogrammed, does it need to be or not? All other numbers on the SJB match except this one

Welcome to the forums!
If the SJB comes from a car that *exactly* matches your car in every way in options and makeup and not a dissimilar donor (aka, a 2006 Mustang GT convertible vs a 2005 Mustang V6 Coupe, as but a rough example), the SJB may likely just plug in and go, no programming needed. There have been reports of such occurrences. However the likelihood is it's probably gonna have to be reprogrammed to work with your car, yes.
It MAY be that the Forscan software with their desired dongle cable can do the job. You can go look at the Forscan website and forums for more info. I've not messed with it, but I have both when/if I need to see about things on Awesome. I'm kinda wanting to see how some of the diagnostics work... or if it has them..
Anyway, if the Forscan can't, or you can't figure out how to do it and make it work, you don't want to do it, you'll have to take the car to a dealership/mechanic that can do the job.
As far as the barcodes...
It's not terribly important. I wanna say it's maybe a code level. Later model ones like an '09 do not have this code on it. I want to say the SJBs for 2005-2009 are all the same... with the exception that the later ones have upgrades to prevent them from being corroded as easily as the earlier models due to water intrusion, and/or code upgrades here and there. So it might be worth investigating a newer box. I have seen this discussed somewhere, but dang if I can find it now.
So don't trust me on that as I can't point you to a source, but... yeah. I'd look into it, or at least figure out what they did so you can maybe 'fix' the older donor one...
I do hope that helps ya out, and good luck!
