I bought all the stuff (tool, carb cleaner, nickel anti-seize, dialectic grease, etc.). Studied the process. Got all eight plugs out in one piece (no problems). Cranked the engine before putting in the new plugs to avoid hydro-lock. Put in the new plugs.

Went to crank it, and it would not turn over. Thought it could be a coil connection problem. Took them all off, one-by-one, and put them back on. Went to crank, wouldn't turn over. Removed all plugs again checked them and put them back on. Put coil packs back on. Went to crank it, no turn over. Slept on it (pissed off). Woke up and unplugged the negative battery cable (to reset computer). Went to crank it, negative.

Now, sitting at the dealership typing this trying to figure out what went wrong...

BTW - Nice to meet everyone.

Not turning over is quite a list, but shouldn't have anything to do with the plugs and packs not being there. Unless the computer got burnt out because a wire was near enough to a ground to cause that to happen... but that's sorta supposed to happen anyway... so I'm goin' no on that.

It's gonna be unrelated. Bad starter or bad ground or something.

Unless you mean 'would not start' and not actually 'no turn over'..?

Oh, and howdy, pleased to meet ya, 'vert!

I am going to attempt this before the end of Mustang season.
Just turned 60k on my 05.

I don't have the TSB in front of me but I thought it also mentioned cranking it to prevent hydrolock and clearing the cylinder.
The only thing that I don't believe was in there, but a friend mechanic suggested, was to remove the fuse for the fuel pump so when your cranking it it's not dumping fuel into the cylinder. Thoughts on that?

I didn't pull the fuse and only turned it over after using a shop vac with a 1/2 hose taped into the sucking end of the vac. I also used the motorcraft carb cleaner listed in the ford plug change instruction guide. I used some other stuff first with not so good results.

Pete! If you haven't purchased your new plugs yet, consider going with Brisk racing spark plugs, as their a one piece designed plug..

A friend of mine has them in his 07 GT with a Roush supercharger and says they work really fantastic for him.. He also told me that Brenspeed offers them at the lowest price as well..

At any rate, when it comes time to swap mine out, I'll most definitely be purchasing the Brisk plugs for sure..

What year did Ford start using the one piece design spark plug in the 4.6L and why won't they work in the earlier year engines?

2005-2008.5 when the head was redesigned to eliminate the 2 piece plug.. You can tell with coil pack color change. I think black vs. brown. black being 2 piece.

Beginning Dec 07 was the manufacture date the new heads were used on the 4.6L3V. Here's the brown boot that are used with the new ones:

The heads were redesigned to accept shorter plugs. The old 2 piece were longer (the extension below the threads is where the carbon builds) so the new plugs won't work in the old heads. Also, notice the different width of the threads.

So has anyone taken spark plugs out that have nickel anti-seize on them? Did it really help keep the plugs from breaking off?

I pulled my stock plugs at 15k and put anti-seize on them and put them back in. I'm at 74k now and was thinking about changing the plugs soon.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking of trying one of the one piece plugs on my fiancée's 07 GT before it gets more miles on it. She is only at 15,500 miles.
