Front end shudder under braking
Hello all!
If I do any hard braking at freeway speeds the front of my GT shutters quite a bit. I am sure it is not the ABS as I get no pulsing in the pedal. Any ideas? I am assuming the front rotors are warped, but I thought I would see what everybody thinks. I had the dealership look at it but they could not replicate the problem, and want $115 to do a diagnostic. They did say the rears are "Glazed" and need to be turned. I am thinking about dropping it off at a brake shop and having all 4 rotors turned to see if it helps. |
Yup, mine do the same thing now. I'm at 50k miles, and more than a few strip runs and canyon carving sessions, so mine are definitely warped, glazed, and you can even see the massive discoloration on my front rotors. They're done!
I've got a pair of drilled and slotted Rotor-Pro's rotors ready to go on though :nice: Save your money, you already know what the problem is! |
You need new rotors. Check out www.newtakeoff.com if you just want the stock replacement parts for cheap.

man your not kidding good price. $40.00 bucks for two rotors
|
Can't I just get the rotors turned? Or are they "toast" now that they have warped?
If I have to replace them I might just spend the money on a set of slotted rotors. |
You could get them turned, yes. The problem is they will be thinner than they were originally. If they warped with the original thickness, they will be easier to warp when thinner. How much is it to have the rotors turned?
|
You can probably get them turned, and they'll be alright for awhile, depending on how hard you are on the brakes.
It could definitely be a stop gap measure before you get new rotors. I got a great deal on mine that I couldn't pass up (slightly used, about 2k miles on them). You can usually get a set of four turned for around $50.00 |
Newtakeoff.com sells brand new stockers for $40 + shipping for the front 2. That is per set, not each. Can't beat that.

I had 2 rotors turned by O'Reily's for $10 a few years ago.
