The optional security system comes with a higher capacity 80 Amp battery which should reduce the potential for rundown during extended periods of non-use.

Went out to the garage today to play a new Cd's in my new $25 K stereo system....and guess what the battery was dead! At first the Cd was skipping around and I thought I had a bad radio like some of you other guys. The radio display then read LOW BATTERY before it went out completly. Then I tried to fire the stang and she was dead! Luckily I had a powerpack recharger and was able to start her up......................tommorrow I go to the Ford dealer to demand a new battery. It had been last driven 4 days prior. BTW the onboard diagnostic system check said CHARGING SYTSEM OK, no mention of battery.

Anyone else had this problem?
You put a $25,000.00 stereo in your car and the battery is now dead? What are the chances something wasn't wired up properly and it drained the battery?

Yes, I was referring to the active anti-theft system. I couldn't remember what it was called, but I'm sure a few folks have this on their car. I've ordererd it on the one I have on the way.

He was just kidding. I, too, have the new $25k stereo; right now, there's snow is all over the ground and the Stang is only good for sitting in and listening to the Shaker

My '94 T Bird still has the original Ford battery. Car has 224,000 miles on it. Starts every time. It's been below zero here for the past few mornings - started right up. I even left it out all one winter and ... you guessed it ... started right up.

'05 Mustang has started OK so far.

'03 Corvette convertible had a bad battery from the factory. Would go dead over night, etc. Dealer put in a new, larger one and no trouble since.

Hope you with clicks and no growls get your cars checked and have no more problems.

Are you serious? Sounds impossible, 11 years on a battery?

I have a '90 Ranger, in June 2002 I was at a Home Depot and went to start the truck and the battery blew it's top (didn't hurt anything). That was the first time I realized it was the original battery. The truck only had about 75,000 miles, but just the time should have killed the battery. I've had two new ones since.

That is amazing, that is just not supposed to happen, the most I've ever gotten out of a battery is 5 years

Five years is a decent battery value. Considering the neighborhood the Depot was in when the battery blew, it caused some excitement.

hmmm...I guess battery life is one of those things that if you never have a problem...you don't notice.
My 1991 Lumina still had the original battery. It did have the upgraded battery and alternator package. I attempted to trade it in on my mustang (just to get rid of it) and they offered $300. I laughed and sold it for $1100 the next day.
I left my iPod in my charging rack for 5 days in the stang without driving it...cranked fine...till the rear bolt sheared (see other post)..
Oh well...
Waiting for "Limey's" return

Both of my current cars are 99's and within the last month, I have replaced batteries on both. It appears that 5 years appears to be the average expected battery life.

Folks-

I went away for 8 days, and my car (locked in my garage) had a dead battery. There is something going on here. I haven't done anything to test it out otherwise since. Keeps a charge overnight, and I drive it almost every day.

One thing I was worried about was my SCT flash, wondering if that had anything to do with it (bad code might keep something on that it shouldn't?).
Same thing.........A nice day today and went out to crank her up after about 2 weeks. NOTHING! I've got it on charger now. Positive that nothing was left on or open!?? Any clues? BTW Happy New Years!

I'm resurrecting this old thread since I just had the dead battery syndrome occur. We were away for 10 days and came home to find the battery dead and the driver's window totally open. The car was still locked and in place as we had left it. Our dealer's service dept has not heard of this occurring before but will check it out when I get it jumped and bring it up to them.

How have any of you fared that reported this problem previously? Rickturbo??? M1Rifle??? Bullittman????

I've killed the battery in mine twice, both by leaving the radar detector on. I didn't do this accidently, as I used to leave the detector on all the time in my '97 Cobra without incident. On this car, it killed the battery in about 7 or 8 days. I haven't had another incident since I've been good about shutting the detector off, but I did feel this was odd considering my past experience.
