$48 For A Plastic Seat Lever????
$48 For A Plastic Seat Lever????
Decided to stop by the dealership to see about getting a replacement seat lever (that cheap POS lever that is on the seat back, don't know the technical name for it). I figured it couldn't cost more than $1 or $2 and not really worth my time of scheduling an appointment and bringing it in just to replace that so, I'd eat the cost. Go to the parts department and the guy tells me they are $48 EACH!!! WTF???? He said it should be covered under warrantee but, when my warrantee runs out, I'm going to have to fork over $48 dollars for this POS which seems like it doesn't take much to break. Does anybody know if there is an aftermarket one, maybe a billet style that's more durable?
It should be for that kind of money....I deal in a lot of Ford parts and have noticed that there has been a huge price increase on the nickle & dime parts over the past few years. No logical reason for it other than to boost their bottom line.
My son broke one of mine about a year ago. I didn't want the hassle of taking it in for warranty work either. I know it wasn't $48, but I do remember it was over $20. Ford knows we can't get them anywhere else, so they stick it to us on the replacement parts!
Shop around at other dealerships. One may be willing to give you a break.

Both of mine snapped off too a while back. Took it in for other stuff and mentioned them to my service guy, he replaced them under warranty with what seemed like stronger ones, and they haven't even budged or broke since, and I use them quite a bit.
I say they are stronger because I remember the old ones used to snap on very easily. The replacements, however, took a huge amount of elbow grease to slide them on and once on they were as tight as could be and as I said before, they haven't faltered even a tiny bit.
Either way, I would definately not pay for them if your car is still under warranty.

Mustangs Unlimited sells them for 24.95 ea. Part Number F4112 (camel) F4113 (black) and F4114 (grey)
It was under warranty when I went in for it, they put them in there along with a new trunk light cover. I reached back one day and it just snapped right off. They must be making quite a profit if people have to start buying those.
I'd like to see them. Hell, if I've got to dish $48 for these once the warantee is up (and I can guarantee the other with break shortly thereafter), I'd like to get ones that will last.
Its called cheap cr*p made in China and Mexico. My company does it, most companies do it now days. It stinks. Corporations talk up a good line about quality and customer service, but when it comes time to own up, it doesn't always do so.
Heck, it's nothing new. One of the plastic brackets that held the sunshade in the hatch area of our '90 Mustang broke, and they wanted $20 for this little piece of plastic. And this was 10-12 years ago. It blew my mind.
Maybe Ford's trying to compete with the Germans for who charge the most for a cheap plastic part.
