Fixing small paint chip
 

I hope to get an idea from some of you who seem to be collectors and in vehicle restorations.

Monday a flying rock hit my car and there is now a small paint chip (2 by 3 mm) in the front of the right Cant Rail.

Do you know if that can be repaired or is it a major fix?

<O:p</O:pAlso I paid for Ford ESP DentCare when I purchased my Mustang.
I do not even know if they repair such paint chip. I do not know if Woody Anderson Ford can help me with that.

One way or another I would like to repair it, or have it repaired, or learn how to repair it myself if there is no other option.

Without looking, I am guessing. You need to find the proper blend of paint. If this is a fairly new car, you can pick up some touch-up paint at several places. If the auto parts store does not have it, I love http://paintscratch.com.

The technique is that you have to "build up" to the paint level. This takes several little dabs at the spot. Once built up, then some fine sanding to level, then polish.

When I purchased my mustang I purchased the touch up paint as well (grabber blue).

I have been trying to fix it, and I will follow your advice, I hope I will not or did not make it worse. For some reason it does not look that good yet. :O(

How long do you wait between layers to build it up?

Dry time for such a small drop is really fast. 15-30 minutes is fine.

Just be patient. You also may need to put one or two layers of clear over it as well.

Yes I agree. I think now it needs the clear coat. It is very smooth now, but the color does not match exactly, I think if it were shiny it would be fine now.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Is that something I can buy anywhere? I believe they have repair kits with clear coat. I am not sure if it worth it or not. I looked at the links you gave me, I may find all my answers there, but having recommendations is often more effective.<o:p></o:p>

Hehehe... Well come on to our next meeting! Third Tuesday of the month at Lone Star in the Madison Square Mall parking lot. A bunch of us gather at ~6 and have something to eat first.

You can get a small bottle of clear in any auto parts stores where the paint section is. They have small bottles with brushes in them of factory paint. They will also have a small bottle of clear.

Concerning the paint chip, for some reason I am not doing a good job at all. I do not have the knowhow nor the correct tools. I am going to seek professional service... I will go today to Rowland's Rods (4438 Evangel Cir) and see if I can talk to Cliff. <O:p></O:p>

My daughter scrapped her Dodge Caliber backing up today so I may see him again next week for him to actually and officially fix her car. We are having a good week!
