How Would YOU Do the Bullitt?
 
If you were charged with designing the 2008 Bullitt, what features would it have?

My thoughts...

-Dual-vented hood
-Quarter window louvers
-Torque Thrust rims
-Actual Highland Green color (Not that metallic green used on the '01s)
-325-350 HP or so. No need for anything excessive, IMO. Maybe more HP optionally.
-FRPP handling package
-Upgraded brakes (Brembo?)
-3:73 or even 4:10 gears
-More aggressive exhaust set-up of some sort.
-No fogs
-No spoilers
-No side-scoops
-Chrome trimmed grill
-Chrome trimmed door windows (windshield and rear window too?)
-Chrome door handles? Not sure about that one.
-Smaller, retro-style side-view mirrors (also chrome?)
-All black interior, leather
-Black, Hurst-style shifter knob
-No badging, except (possibly unique) faux fuel door on trunk
-Unique Bullitt number placard somewhere on the dash (1 through whatever the final production number is)
-Possibly unique front fascia, complete with round, retro-style blinkers

I'm probably forgetting some things I'd like, but that's it off the top of my head.

Styling would be almsot exactly like the spy photos.

Normal GT spoiler delete, fog and horse delete in front. Dual vented hood and quarter window louvers though.

68 style seat ala 2001 car.

5.4 4v N/A rated 390hp with TR6060 6-speed.

I'd pretty much echo Wolfburg's spec sheet, except with perhaps adding a 375-400hp 5.4 instead of yet another 4.6 with the ubiquitous FRPP parts added on. That "big block," reflecting the 390 of the original, and a six speed tranny would really set this apart as something truly special.

Instead of chrome, which can look a bit garish if overdone, I'd use more a brushed satin metal finish for a more modern interpretation of what was chromed in the '67 version.

I like the deconted look Wolfburg describes rather than the reflexive and all-too common resort to tacking on about every styling cliche available -- let the great form of the S197 shine through unencumbered by bling bling. In this day of overwrought styling, this would really set it apart in a subtle, Steve McQueen sort of way.

But I think the reality is that the actual Bullett will be nice but a bit underwhelming overall, bascially another facile stroll through the FRPP catalog to create a highland green Shelby GT with some unique trim bits. Again, nice enough but hardly somethig that'll actually exceed expectations.

I concur. That'd probably look better. I'd also be for a 5.4 engine and 6-speed tranny if the car remained anywhere near affordable.

- FR power upgrade package
- FR handling pack
- Brembo brakes w/14"/13" rotors
- 18" dark charcoal Bullitt style wheels w/255s (tires)
- tuned exhaust
- IUP (dark charcoal)
- dark charcoal simulated '68 seats upholstery
- double vented hood (the GT500 hood would do)
- GT500 front & rear fascias, no fog lamps
- side scoops & '68 style window louvers
- flat black running pony on front grille
- flat black GT emblems on front fenders
- rear spoiler delete
- BULLITT logos on brushed aluminum entry guards and rear deck lid (flat black)
- available in DHG, Alloy Gray, and Black

Optional equipment:
- Shaker 1000
- Navigation


That is what I had visualized the BULLITT from Ford to be, a simple and balanced combination of performance, handling, and non pretentious exterior and interior style. The use of existing parts from other Mustang models would appeal to the bean counters. I would have expected it in the 400 hp/torque and $40K MSRP range, and would sell like pancakes.

This what I would do if I had the chance

- Highland green (obviously)
- Gunmetal color bullitt style 18" wheels
- No exterior badging whatsoever
- 5.0 cammer or 5.4 n/a
- Six speed manual trans only
- Black interior accented with Highland green, perhaps on the seats like the GT C/S
- Hurst shifter
-FRPP exhaust or similar

I'd say that combination of stuff would be awesome and I'd price it at 35k.

1 BULLITT just hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. that's EXACTLY what I pictured when i first heard about the possibility of an S197 Bullitt.

I think I would start with a 1968 Dynacorn Bodies and figure out how to make it legal for 2008! At least it would look like a real Bullitt!

On a serious Note a small bump in HP, Suspension upgrades, retro interior syling, dual vented hood, no fogs and debadged would be a fine with me. Basically do what made the 01 great and leverage the new styling to take it a step further!

Wolsburg and 1 Bullitt, you guys should've been in charge of the new 2008 Bullitt as you both have some great ideas that I would definitely love to see on the new car. The '08 model is the one to finally get it right for Ford, so I hope they're listening! Okay Ford, take a good look at what these fellows have put down and don't release this car with anything less than these features! Let's get it right this time!

-Chrome trimmed, fog-less/pony-less grill
-01 Bullitt concept steering wheel

Realistically, to keep it somewhat affordable and using mostly parts already available to Ford:

1. FRPP Drag Pack (M-2006-FR2)
2. FRPP Handling Pack (M-2005-FR3)
3. FRPP shorty headers (M-9430-S197*)
4. FRPP X-pipe (M-5251-R*)
5. FRPP GTA exhaust
6. FRPP/Hurst short throw shifter (M-7210-T1)
7. FRPP 3.73 or 4.10 gears
8. FRPP 14" front brake upgrade
9. 18x9" anthracite Bullitt wheels
10. Highland Green paint (Black optional)
11. Fogless & ponyless front grille
12. Dark charcoal interior (maybe with a different seat design?)
13. Spoiler delete; optional 1/4 window louvers
14. "Bullitt" insignia only on: faux gas cap, door sill plates, steering wheel cover; all other interior and exterior emblems removed.
15. Dual vented hood (optional)

I like lot of the items posted earlier...but what I really would have liked is for Ford to debut an IRS in the Bullitt before making it part of the up coming refresh.

The IRS system is quite expensive and nice (I had one on my '03 Cobra), but would drive up the price of the Bullitt substantially keeping it out of the "friendly" price range. Besides, Ford has had great success with the current live axle which has proven to be quite effective on the track.
A nice request, but I doubt if you'll see it on the Bullitt.

I think the Bullitt will be what it is supposed to be: a package option on a regular Mustang, which is what the 1968 version really was, wasn't it? I work for a dealer, and I imagine the Bullitt package is long been finalized. All those mods sound cool, but everyone wants the car to be less than $35,000 too. Leave some of that on the table for the aftermarket and make the package affordable. This car will be neat, no doubt, just like the other option packages like the C.S.

The 1968 version came from the movie Bullitt itself and not actually from Ford dealers. The car(s) in the movie was modified by a tuning specialist that took on a look of its own. The 2001 Bullitt was an option package to a regular Mustang GT thus making it a limited Special Edition of 5582 units available in Dark Highland Green, True Blue and Black.
