The trimming on the tail lights adds a nice touch, as it belongs unlike the black panel of lower portion of the trunk lid. By hiding the sides of the rear emblem it makes it look cheap, no different than Shelby's bright idea of a front grille on top of the stock grille.

Looks good especially since the real bullitt had a blacked out panel between the taillights. :nice:

No, it did not. The red "GT" letters on the gas cap were covered or blacked out as you call it but not the rear panel.

Yeah it wasn't blacked out. It was dulled though, to prevent reflection on the camera.

That's why I went with the matte finish....to prevent reflection of the radar guns.......:grin::grin:

I like it. As a matter of fact, I think the blacked-out rear panel should be part of the GT apperance(sp) package!:agree:

The car that had the blacked out tailight trim sure looks like the panel is blacked out. The car that did not have the TL trim blacked out looked HLG. I don't want to get in a debate over the two bullitt cars but next time I have my copy out I'll double check.

I understand. You were offering a compliment as opposed to my comment which might be interpreted as trashing it, which was not. It was an objective opinion. If the black panel had provisions for the rear emblem to be inserted on top of the panel rather than have a cut out for it then I would be in agreement as well.

That is correct. Even the parts between the tail light lenses were painted the same dull green color. But whatever, the black panel looks good as the Bullitt is "too green" in my opinion and should be broken up with either a matted DHG or blacked-out panel. Ford's original plan for the '08 Bullitt was to have a charcoal grey "tail light surround" that would match the wheels. Perhaps it's a good thing they didn't follow through on this. I'm not sure how that would've looked............

Again I must say it is nice to see some people mod the bullits.

Here's the back of the original to compare yours against.

I agree. Like anything else, it needs to be done in good taste. There's a guy on the forum that had his stock Bullitt rims widened by an 1.5 inch or so. I thought that was too cool !

That's the key.

I did some mods on my '68. I liked the Bullitt theme but did not want to change the original factory design too much. It took me a long time to reach a compromise.

The picture below illustrates eight items which were altered yet most people who saw it never noticed or commented on the differences.

And that is where it ends. The Bullitt nostalgia is nice but it doesn't measure to the '08 - '09 Bullitt. The total cost including restoration was $27K in 2001 with the illusion it would be better than the '01 Bullitt. It didn't take me long to find out it wasn't. The one positive point was the discovery of appreciation of the modern models.

I always say a lady with one pierced ear ring looks GREAT! But then a lady with 10 pierced ear rings in the ear doesn't look good ! More isn't always better!
A lot of thought has to go into modifying a Bullitt Mustang.
I try to enhance the Bullitt Not change it

Man! that says alot! Is modern really better? Right now, I'd trade my '05 and my SVO for a clean 71-73 Mach1. Asise from the obvious, what's the major downfall?

I would consider a low miles '04 Cobra instead.

It had HG painted tail light trim, and HG tail panels, that were dulled or flat finished.
I've already watched all the movie scenes over and over in slo motion and frame.
