New to me 2007 GT/CS Performance White
 

Good evening TMS,

Wanted to report that as of yesterday I became the owner of this very nice 2007 GT/CS in Performance White. 79K miles and completely stock. I added an intro but for some reason it isn't showing but I'll try not to duplicate the post too much. My last Mustang was an 05 Roush Sport. That one was modified front to back. I have had other older generations as well. Safe to say that the Mustang is in my Blood. Actually I have only driven FORD since getting my license at 16.

About the only thing I spotted wrong with this interior was the Horn Logo is faded and peeling, and the coating on the Stereo is peeling on one button. Otherwise it looks close to new given its 12 years of age. The seats could use some conditioning and cleaning.

Congrats. With a little TLC she will be good as new.

Good morning guys and gals,

thanks for the welcomes and I am happy to be here. I have already learned quite a bit about these Specials as well as a few issues that I never experienced with my Roush as it had different parts on it. While driving very slow and on uneven roads I get a very annoying rattle/cluck coming from somewhere in the suspension. At speed it goes away but slow and steady its there. My research shows that this is most likely the Strut Mounts with bad bearings.

Probably first on the list of upgrades will be some suspension parts
Most definitely have to improve the shift stick. First time using the OEM stick as the Roush had an aftermarket. Its not terrible but I am tall and with the seat back to make enough room the top gears 1/3/5 seem out of reach. I am over thinking it for sure,
Will need to address the quiet exhaust note as well. As mentioned before everything is stock on this car. Even the mufflers are original!

Very nice!! Enjoy. By the way, my horn button looks kinda lousy too and the car has always been garage kept since new. Just an inferior piece unfortunately.

I tried to remove the thin metal piece so I could take off all the paint under the plastic coating. These things are NOT meant to be removed and I can safely say it was destroyed in the process. What's worse is they are not readily available as replacements. At least not from what I can find. I did find one that was much different than the Tri-Bar and horse but I had to pay stupid for it.

Lesson learned I suppose!

Loving this CS though. While I am growing impatient with Ford Part on the Authenticity I am finding other ways to occupy my lust for anything Mustang. I really want to get the Dash/Engine bay plaque ordered!

The CS is in desperate need of Struts/Shocks and Strut mounts. Makes all kinds of noise when I drive it. At close to 80K, per ford the Stock Struts/Shocks are 20k over due.

It'll be fun getting a chance to spend some time with it once the parts arrive.

I took a break in the weather yesterday and drove it up some ramps to take a look underneath. Was shockingly disappointed...! It never dawned on me to look that thoroughly at the dealer because where I had was surprisingly clean. The previous owner had this car in Gaulala CA which is directly on hwy 1 and the coast. Yup, you guessed it. Anything not perfectly coated or painted is now grossly rusted. The most obvious parts are the Control Arms and K-Member. Everything past that seems okay save for a bolt here and there.

Yeah I am kicking myself for not looking but the issue is solvable and I still believe I have a perfect foundation to work with. When its not raining I'll get a wire wheel and see if it just bad surface rust or pitted. I know these 4.6's are not terribly powerful Stock but there is still a lot of torque twisting on that K-Member. Good thing is I have options for aftermarket and experience with replacing the K-Member on my previous Roush Sport. Also kicking myself that I didn't keep the Stock K from that car.

As you mentioned, the rust issues with the control arms and K-member are solvable by either going over with a wire wheel or in the worst case scenario, replace them with aftermarket ones. At 79k miles, I'd replace the control arms with new ones, to begin with anyhow due to not only the 79k miles but that your car is now also 12 years old as well. All in all, IMO you appear to have a very clean "07" GT/CS. Congrats and welcome to TMS. Also, thanks for sharing :nice:

Roush Suspension
 

Hello Rocky,

I just finished installing Roush Struts/Shocks and Roush Coils. I got a pretty good look at the K-Member and Control Arms. Visually they are ugly but would probably hold up for a time. My gut is telling me replace, at the very least the control arms. I believe that is the direction I'll start with. My previous 05 had a complete BMR set up on it and I liked it a lot. Will considering going that direction again.

Otherwise she drives significantly better. As expected the strut mounts were garbage. Passenger side came apart during removal! I went with the "claimed" upgraded FRPP GT 500 mounts but I am having my doubts these are really an upgrade... The reason I say this is because the FORD part numbers on the stockers are the very same as the supposed upgrades. I could be wrong in my assumption as I really don't know.. but one would think an upgraded version would have a different part number. That being said the replacements along with some new struts and coils really made a difference. I also have plans to complete the Roush suspension with their sway bars eventually.

In addition to the suspension I also installed an SLP Loudmouth Axle Back. What a difference over the Stock exhaust. Considering the FRPP X-Pipe to complement these but it might be too loud after that...?

Just keep in mind that an X-pipe will provide a slightly higher pitched exhaust tone over a traditional H-pipe. If you plan on running either high-flow cats or off-road? I would highly recommend against running an X-pipe, as once you change out the factory catted H-pipe. the X-pipe will produce both a tinny and raspy exhaust note unless you splice in a pair of resonators to your over the axle pipes before the rear axle. Otherwise, if you prefer a deeper, throatier exhaust tone? I'd stick with either the factory catted H-pipe or go with an off-road H crossover as an alternative. Anyhow, just my personal opinion :dunno:

Hey m05,

The X-Pipe I am looking at is a cut and clamp version that literally just removes the H and adds the X. Everything up front remains OEM so it will have Cats on it. My Roush had a BBK hi-flow x cat back. I liked it but I was running mufflers. This CS has the SLP delete. I believe it would be too loud with that set up.

I am familiar with the X vs H tones and like them both. In the end its not needed and I can focus the $ elsewhere,

I'm also very familiar with the Ford Racing cut "n" clamp X crossover pipe that retains the factory cats. However, there have been several complaints concerning fitment/alignment issues. Therefore I would highly recommend going with the Pypes cut and clamp X crossover which IMO has a much better design over the Ford Racing version. If interested? Hey that is not a bad deal. I also really like the way the Pypes looks over the FRPP version. I have a few things that I need to address before I complete the exhaust but I will certainly add this to my list.

Wow, looks like the mod bug has bit pretty hard. Looking very nice there. Sorry to hear about the underside rust, but I think that is pretty common with our cars and like said above very fixable. Like what you have done and plan to do so far. Very nice. :nice:

I see a new addition to the Steering wheel, Speedo/Tach update, Shift knob, and a new radio head on the inside. Anything else in there besides the plaque changed?
