what to do? thinking about purchasing a gt500

trying to purchase a gt500
I currently own a 06 mustang gt and I have plans for a KB s/c and buildup of a cobra block. SO i sat down the other day and went over everything i need (engine parts, clutch, strengthen my trans, rear end, fuel system, tuning, etc) for this car to hold 600 rwhp. With all the mods, im looking at dumping close to 15k for everything. I was kinda bumbed to say the least, its a larger sum then what i wanted to spend. SO i was sitting there talking to my bro, and he said "if your going to spend 15k, why not buy a gt500?". that was the worst thing i could have heard.
What do you guys think about this from a financial standpoint? Over the years my mustang will lose value relatiely fast due to so many being built, as well as lose more with the mods i would have to do to it. Would the shelby be a better investment? Most of the parts i already have will fit on the shelby (wheels, suspension parts, ect) and what doesnt i can still sell for a reasonable price.
I called the bank, they approved me for retail and insurance is only 30 more a month. I would be pay 250 more a month for the car loan.
I called some dealers and they are trying to locate one so i have some time to figure out whats the best route to go. What do you guys think? 12k on a 8.99 percent interest Credit card is about 300 a month. If i am going to pay that extra 300, why not put it towards something that will hold it value much better?

Not quite everything. You might like to add a few bucks for Extra Strength Tylenol. Mods are fun but often fall short on accomplishing the balance one seeks. By contrast, SVT engineers managed to find it on the GT500.

I'd say do it if you can afford it. Another thing to think about, is if you put $15,000 woth of mads on you GT....you will never get that back if you sold it.

I have decided to do it...... i thought. 2 dealerships called me back, they want 5-10k over sticker for an 07. I was blown away. Did everyone here really pay that or do i just have greedy dealers? I told both if they wanted to sell it at sticker to call me back, i have cash in hand.
Im a very pride filled person, and i just cant bring myself to give a dealership 10-15k to pull a car off a truck, wash it, then call me to come pick it up. No offense to anyone here that did, but that just ****ed me off.
Any suggestions on how i can buy one at retail or close to it?

Take the cash in and show it to them. Hopefully with a few people in there and say. I'll pay you sticker for the GT500. If they still say no or say a higher price tell them you will have to go somewhere else. Then if they offer it to you tell them no. Then if they say "we'll sell you the car!" Offer them a 1000 less than sticker. If they scoff or complain about it say "It really sucks when it seems someone is not listening to what you are saying doesn't it?"

The answer to your question is the vast majority of the people who bought Shelby GT 500's paid $5,000 - $20,000 over MSRP. After reading all the posts of those that own them and post about it, seems to be 95% paid thousands over and the 4% that didn't had a reason, and 1% just got lucky. I mean to say the 4% were big customers (order 20 cars per year) or there cousin owned the dealership. 1% just had a dealer sell it at sticker - lucky. I posted on another web page dealers are still paying to other dealer 52K - 60K for these cars. Here is a sample of 07 coupe prices from Manheim auctions (dealers only, wholesale):
DATE AUCTION TYPE PRICE MILES CONDITION COLOR
04/13/07 MANHEIM Regular $53,600 464 Below BLUE
04/11/07 NEWBRGH Regular $62,500 5 Above Red
04/05/07DARLNTONRegular$52,700 1,064 Below BLACK
04/04/07MILWAUKELease $30,2509 674 Below ORNG
03/23/07MANHEIMRegular $58,750 31 Avg BLACK
03/16/07LAUD/MIALease $56,500 100 Avg WHITE
Now my question would be why would they sell it at MSRP even with cash in hand when they can go to auction and get several thousand over MSRP and walk out with cash in hand? You may find one at MSRP, all I'm doing is answering your question of "Did everyone here really pay that?" The answer is yes and they still are.

well that solves that. Just sucks I thought i would be able to afford one and turns out i cant. Ive never seen a ford sell over sticker other than the Ford GT, wich is understandable. Thanks for the info. I will just have to wait a few more years for the dust to settle.

What I don't understand is whats going to happen with the 08's start showing up on the lot? and the KR's? what are they gonna do? put a 25k markup on the KR's, 20k on the 08 GT500's, and 5-10k on the 07 GT500's?

I've come to the same conclusion myself. With the estimated production for the GT-500 exceeding 10k, I'm betting that demand will eventually be less than supply and deals can be had. Now, I just wait...

Patience has its virtues...... Wait to pick up an '07 used in another year for around $40k or so. And you can bet most of them in one year's time will have extremely low mileage because most buyers today aren't driving them.
I did this same thing when I bought my "used" '03 Cobra with 9,000 miles for $27k. The original window sticker listed it as $33k plus there was a $2k dealer markup, plus tax, etc. In Arizona, there is no tax on private party sales, so it cost me $27,000 + $12 title transfer fee.
This is one time when I won't mind "sloppy seconds". In fact, I insist on it. Patience........

Second consideration, in the price desired to be the same as your car and the 15k in modifications, is to wait it out for the KR and the Camero - a deal on a new GT500 may be at MSRP or just slightly over.
Third, you can take the advise aforementioned whereby you acquire one via the aftermarket with low miles and few modifications other than bolt ons. This means the car is likely not molested severely.

However, you had better have your bank approve a loan for the $60K + range as I have yet to see one sell at MSRP (in my area anyways) to the general public. I have offered 3 dealers in my are MSRP and they just smile. I too, balk at paying MSRP - much less thousands over...this car will come down in price eventually especially when the '08's and other speciality models come out. Hang in there and be patient, you'll get what you want eventually.
