Buy GT500 or regular GT w/supercharger?
 
I'm looking to buy a supercharged Mustang GT (looked at a couple already), or possibly a GT500, and was wondering if there's any substantial reasons to go one way or the other?

I like bells and whistles, so it seems like 2007-2009 GT500 may be way to go. And it seems like GT500 has some upgraded parts too???

So, what would you guys do if you wanted a supercharged Mustang - buy a regular GT, or buy a GT500?

Thanks for any tips, comments or suggestions.... :nice:

For me it would come down to money mainly. Plus, who installed/tuned the GT vs the fact that the Shelby was done at the factory (depends on upgrades).

Don't know what your budget is, but today I saw a 2014 GT500 with 894 miles on it for less than 50K...
...There are some good deals on the net for those in the market right now..

GT500, IMO...(1) OEM; (2) reliability; (3) prominence; (4) other Ford upgrades to chassis, suspension, brakes, interior, etc. that come with GT500 option. I think 2010-2012 the car was significantly upgraded overall, so maybe you can move up to that model. Of course 2013-2014 is the King, but that might be too $$. Good luck!

GT500

As new as you can afford. I've owned both and still own a 2007 GT that I supercharged. I personally wouldn't buy someone else's supercharger project car. Plus the transmission in the GT500 is stronger.

Yes, GT500 as new as you can afford.
However;
I did buy a 2006 GT "someone else's supercharger project" but...
I knew the owner, the S/C installer and the tuner.:nice:
Also, you don't want to go much over 500 engine HP on a 4.6 without building the engine ($$$) first.
The GT500 starts at 500HP.

The GT500's I am seeing for sale (LOTS of them available) seem almost universally over-priced, according to NADA book valuation. Am I missing something? Or is this typical? Are sales prices actually in line with NADA, does anyone know?

A 2014 GT500 with 894 miles on it for 50K is what you are missing.

Definitely get a GT500. Several on the web with under 20k on them. But one with less than 1k for $50K that sounds like a pretty good deal if it has the right options and has little or no mods. The GT500 will hold it value better and has a motor and transmission that is built to last.

As someone who has both in the garage (OK, the GT500 is the fiancee's car, but I work on it and drive it), if I was to do it all over again I'd walk right past the GT and go to a pre-owned GT500.
Lots of clean ones out there with low mileage and not many mods, or none.

The GT500 has a factory-forged engine, stupid torque even in stock form, different gearing, and factory-supercharged with the option to slap on there the '13-'14 TVS blower for an easy 100-200+ rwhp upgrade.
Stock, the '07-'09 GT500 puts down about 435 rwhp.
My fiancee's car had a pulley, intake and tune on it when she bought it, already putting down 530 rwhp.
A re-tune with a better tuner brought it to 550 rwhp/550 rwtq.
The TVS blower (with a bigger TB and '13 injectors) put it at 656 rwhp / 661 rwtq.
And the car is still reliable. And stupid fun. Doing 65 in top gear you don't even have to downshift for a nice surge of power, you just give it some gas.
And then there's the looks. Ford's most aggressive design, gets the most looks, looks best (in my eyes for sure)

While I do have the $50k available, I just can't bring myself to spend that much.....

Yeah, there are indeed lots of clean GT500's out there, but prices seem unrealistic to me, especially for 10-year old car. And some of these sellers are asking true pie-in-the-sky prices, LOL, apparently just hoping for some ignorant rich snotbag to come along and throw them a bag full of money. Gimme a break.

But I am in no hurry and I enjoy the shopping process. When the right deal comes along, I will buy. I was focusing on regular old GT, but now you guys got me leaning towards the GT500................. ;)

You could always look further away. The cost of the airfare there might still be less than the difference in a lower priced car that's not close to you, where apparently they want all the money for them.
Plus, you'd get a nice drive back in your new beast ;)

One thing that I really dislike on the GT500's are those gigantic stripes down the middle. In your avatar (I am assuming those are the two cars in your garage) I much prefer the plain-Jane look of your GT versus your fiancee GT500. Oh well, to each his own, hahahaa

The stripes are what make the car, looks-wise.
Or that's what 99% of Shelby owners will tell you.
I used to think I'd immediately remove the stripes if I ever bought a Shelby, but after 3 years of being around the white/blue beauty that's keeping company to my gray GT in the garage, I fully believe a GT500 needs stripes.

But, for that 1% that doesn't want them, they're just vinyl decals, so they can be removed and you'd have yourself a one-color GT500, a sleeper like mentioned above.

Do a Google search for "GT500 stripe delete" and you'll see lots of pics showing you what that'd look like.

For God's sake, don't let the stripes keep you from highly considering a GT500.

HA, yes. They're vinyl stripes.
Some guys take them off and have them painted on.
But 99.9% of the cars you'll find with stripes, the stripes will be vinyl

If you want a GT look at the cars out there. There are some bargains there and you would have your Supercharger. Stage_3 (Tony) has a very nice 2013 up for sale.

Thanks, looks like a nice car.

It's kinda funny that you mention that $35k number, as it seems like vast majority of GT500's are priced at same number, regardless of year or mileage or mods........ interesting.... I'd like to see some actual sales data on these things. ;)
