Why does my tire pressure monitor for my 12 5.0 look like this?

Isnt it normally a band that goes around the rim?

Are these reusable?

thats what mine looks like to (2010 v6) Its just a different type of sensor. There is a little hole in it that detects the pressure. I had them removed from my old rims and put into new rims... no problems at all.

They switched in 2010. They are reusable.

Most manufacturers have gone to that newer style (no bands) integrated into the valve stem. Re-usable...yes. YOu can buy the re-set tool for around $35

FYI: The reset tool is not needed for 2011 and I assume the same for 2012.

Yep, the sensor is bolted to the stem, GM was the first to use this IIRC, much better than the sensor that has the integrated metal stem and is bolted to the wheel.

At this time I dont think so, would love to upgrade to this since it makes wheel changes very easy (just buy new stems and mount the sensor).

VDO is developing a universal sensor for TPMS applications, I hope when this becomes more popular, a rubber stem mounted VDO redi-sensor can be used in place of the strapped units.

I'm glad My 11 Mustang has the valve stem type. My Dad's 2010 Taurus has the band type (i think i read it in his owners manual).

I read that with the newer style you need to replace the valve stem. Is that true and if so where do you purchase them?
