Upgrade Suspension

I am wanting to upgrade the suspension on my car. Not really sure where to start. I have been reading around the net and Koni seems to be the brand to go with for struts. But other than that I am totally lost. Anyone care to offer some help on good companies and things to be replaced.
There are no race tracks or anything here just some nice back country roads. I am looking to get rid of some body roll and some softness.
Also if the body height stays the same that would ideal. Because well I practically have to off-road and avoid big rocks on the mile long dirt and mud hole ridded driveway.

Thanks

The only way to get better suspension with little change in ride height is to get coil overs. Start saving.

Saving I am, This winter which is not to far away I plan to mod mod mod to keep me sane.

I would do sways and Konis and see how it feels. Both should help control the car better and reduce sway (a bit). You can always add springs later, but most will drop you down at least 1", so you will probably have to go with coilovers to keep the same ride height. There are companies that make coil-over kits for the Konis, though not sure if any are for the S197 platform.

Or, you can see if the Boss suspension will be available. That should be pretty minimal ride height lowering with everything else you seem to be looking for.

I recommend sending a message to Sam Strano who is a sponsor here. Trust me he will help you out. He started this thread yesterday http://"https://themustangsource.com.../#post5935234" talking about the importance of upgrading shocks. Good read.

I would recommend and FR3 handling pack from FRPP with a Steeda adj panhard bar.

Tightens up the car significantly, doesn’t kill ride quality, very affordable.

If you're pleased with the spring rate and need to retain the ride height, a simple shock upgrade may do what you want. Stock shocks just aren't that great, and they are the most important part of the suspension. I've often replaced shocks and retained stock springs. The results can be very good. If you want to control roll, then a sway bar upgrade will handle that. Do it after you do the shocks though as you may not feel them necessary once the shocks are on. Personally I feel the roll stiffness is pretty good on my Brembo car. Sways are all about balance, and the car is pretty neutral now.

I too am looking at koni struts and shocks...which konis are you guys using on the 2011 5.0? I cant seem to find which konis work on these cars

Struts for these cars are the same as used on the '05-09 cars. There was not any change in the suspension hard points for struts. For better struts, the FRPP are real good options. You can also look into both Koni and Tokico. Both offer adjustable and non-adjustable struts.

Just as has been mentioned already, for roll stiffness, you will want to look at upgraded sway bars. FRPP and Steeda each has good options.

You may also want to look into better rear lower control arms. Those will help to "tighten" up the rear some in the corners and make for a more stable ride.

Is there any companies out there that make a all inclusive kit? besides FRPP. I just want to compare and make sure I am getting the best. I am not opposed to spending money. I believe in doing things right the first time and never look back.

Steeda, Roush, Shelby, etc., etc.

Don't make me bust out the "Let me Google that for you" link.

Well I just wanted to see if any one else had any other opinions on complete kits.

I PM'ed Sam Strano so hopefully I can make some more progress on my suspension.

Thanks for the help everyone

You definitely did the right thing by approaching Sam Strano regarding suspension!

I disagree. In fact in a little while I'll have a video up of my autocrossing my 5.0 on stock springs (different swaybars, and different struts). The dampers alone really make the car a lot more fun to drive as it makes it less ponderous and more nimble.

I can help you out there, I know exactly what needs to be done to fit the Koni's to a 2011 (which isn't complicated or expensive).

Give me a ring, have both STR.T's and Sports in stock, and can tell you what you need to know.
