Steering Wheel Button Swap Help

Hey folks,

I have a 2010 mustang gt base that through out the years I upgraded from the base steering wheel to 2013 gt steering wheel:
The steering wheel buttons light up and all but none of them ever actually worked but I really didn't care until now. Recently I upgraded to a Roush 6 gauge cluster and I love it but since my Mustang started out as a base gt, it never came with the "INFO RESET SET UP" switches. I ordered the switch with these buttons hoping that it will work but with my luck...it probably won't happen.

The Reason why I believe this is because a few months back I bought the PAC SWI harness thinking I could control my aftermarket deck with the steering wheel but I was never able to get it to work. The PAC SWI would program as it should but the buttons never worked. Would I be better off getting another steering wheel that has these buttons already or just buy a new steering wheel harness that may make the new switch work? Does anybody have a steering wheel with these buttons they want to sell or anybody know the part number for the harness?

You can get those switches from Tousley ford for cheap.. Or ebay.

Remember that functions of the wheel only work with what your car came built with. As built data. For example a premium wheel would only partially work in a base model. Cruise control would as they both have it but sync wouldn't. The switch and harness are contingent on what functions your car came with in the acm.

Yeah I order those switches from ebay already just waiting to get them since they come from China. Apparently there's not an actual number for those buttons from Ford or at least I couldn't find it.

I don't care for the sync buttons to work (although they're nice) but if I could get the info reset setup buttons to work and maybe the volume buttons and previous and next...that be great.

I read all the good info on that topic and so far I see what you mean Getportfolio, I would to have the dealer to do a new as build data coding but I want to make sure the "INFO RESET SET UP" buttons would work with the code the guy provided there.

Take a look at this thread as it outlines how to obtain and use a tool to make the changes to your ASBUILT data for about what the dealership would charge (If they would even do it since it require the use of another vehicle's VIN). There are MANY knowledgeable people on the thread that might also be able to help with what you are trying to do.

I've done the GT 500 wheel swap twice. Once on a base and once on a premium.

Since you have a 10, you need the cruise switch from a 2010-12. The left switch pictured is from a 13-14.

It controls functionality of the newly designed cluster.

If your car is base and you just wanted to swap to a premium wheel, only the functions of what your car came with with will work, and granted it's the correct year and wiring harness so to speak.

Your dealer would need to flash the ACM to allow functionality. I had the GT 500 wheel in my base v6, and only the right cruise control button worked as it's standard equipment on all built cars. The right side of the wheel did not work. I often thought of taking it to the dealership and paying 75 bucks to get the volume buttons to work but never prioritized it before I traded the car.

I already did the swap for the cluster and have the steering wheel installed. Picture below is my current set up. I'm just wondering what "code" As Built Data do I need to take to dealer so they can make the new buttons I ordered with the "INFO RESET SETUP" work for my current steering wheel. I'm hoping they'll work right off the box but I don't know...

Are you using your original wiring harness from your 10 or a 13-14?

The info, setup buttons are wired directly to the cluster. It should be plug and play. Cruise control might be a problem. I know that the cruise buttons on a 10-12 premium have different resistances than those for a 13-14 premium.

You may need to use cruise switches for a 10-12 car, and get the 10-12 head light switch that has the info, setup buttons instead. I would think that would work best. But I am not sure.

if you are wanting the audio buttons to work then you need a shaker head unit but if your car doesnt have sync you will lose your aux input. if you are wanting the cruise buttons to work you will need the buttons and harness from a 10-12 premium wheel

This as well. That's why I asked about the harness.

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but I might end up buying another Steering wheel. Any good places that sell them for cheap, at least the 10-12 years?

2012 cruise control buttons

Has anyone had issues with cruise control buttons when swapping a premium wheel over to a 2012 Mustang GT? It was a 13 14 wheel and I bought and swapped the 11 12 premium buttons in. Now cruise control doesn't work. I wanna make sure I didn't get bad buttons. Stock worked and the 13 14 buttons worked but are the wrong buttons due to different resistances. Please help!
